If you Google “top drugstore mascaras” you’ll be greeted with a long list of articles. You’ll also notice that with the exception of a few options, nearly every single article shares different mascaras. That’s probably an indication that there are a lot of great drugstore mascaras to choose from, but I wanted to take it a step further and test, review, and compare a few of the top drugstore mascara winners to see just which one is the best. So I sat around one afternoon, applying mascara after mascara, and this is what I thought.
Top Drugstore Mascaras – Tested and Reviewed
To start, here I am without any mascara. I wanted to keep everything simple so I could focus on the mascara, so the only thing I’m wearing is a little foundation and powder, not a single eye product.
L’Oréal Paris Makeup Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara – Rating #1
Starting with the one mascara that was on every list I looked at, L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara.
This mascara is supposed to lengthen and add volume to lashes. I also purchased the lash primer and only applied it to one eye. Can you tell you which one?
For the record, the primer was applied to the left eye. You can’t tell a dramatic difference, so you can save yourself the $8-$9 bucks and skip the primer. Overall, I do agree that this mascara lengthened and added volume to my lashes. It is slightly clumpy, which I think is fairly common with lengthening formulas. It is less clumpy, and more natural looking, than the next product I tried, which is why it landed at #1 for me.
Maybelline New York The Falsies Push Up Drama Washable Mascara – Rating #2
Another great lengthening and thickening formula, but the clumping and cleanup factor landed it below lash paradise on my list. The pros of this product is the beautiful length and fullness it gave my lashes.
However, the formula is pretty clumpy and required brushing after application to separate my lashes. I also used micellar water cleanser after each application to clean up, and this formula was the hardest to clean off. Ironic since this product is labeled as “washable”. I would buy it again, simply because it does have a great outcome if you’re willing to work with it.
Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara – Rating #3
Next up, is a classic. This formula was also on several lists, and has been in the makeup bag of many women for years! I think even my momma used this mascara when I was little, because I remember the iconic pink and green bottle. I also have used this product throughout the years, and will continue to do so.
This formula does not add as much volume, or lengthen as much as some of the others I tried, but as far as a clump free, soft, and light finish – it wins! This is a great everyday mascara. Easy to put on and easy to take off.
Covergirl Full Lash Bloom – Rating #4
Oh the Covergirl Full Lash Bloom – is only on my list at all, because it was one I bought. I wouldn’t buy this one again.
The results were so-so, and not worthy of another try to be honest. The only thing going for this formula is that it does in fact give you a soft, clump free finish, but doesn’t do anything for my lashes in terms of curl, volume or length.
Overall, each formula was pretty good, and I can see why they were on a top list, with the exception of full lash bloom – skip that one. Another plus, all of these are under $10, some even under $5! I would buy the top three again. What about you? Are any of your favorites on my list?
