Post Holiday Skin Refresh

This post is sponsored by Skin Resource.MD but all opinions are my own.

The holiday hasn’t happened just yet, but I’m already getting ready for that after feast skin. You know what I mean? The tired, slightly puffy – needs a nap kind of skin. I love Thanksgiving and the holiday season in general. I indulge like no other, shop like no other and lose a little too much sleep – but I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, because of that holiday lifestyle, my skin takes a beating. So this year, I’m coming up with a plan, ahead of the season, to hopefully keep the acne, puffy eyes, and dull complexion at bay. The post holiday skin refresh plan is on deck.

1. Drink Up!

The heavy food of the holiday is often sodium and fat laden, which let’s be honest is delicious, but not good for you. So in between the cookies and turkey, I’ll be sipping on some water. Water is not only good for you in general, it’s so necessary for pretty skin. One way I keep myself drinking a lot of water is by using an insulated cup, like a YETI cup. It keeps the water so cold and so good!

2. Eat Up!

After a great holiday feast, I like to reset my body with lighter food. You skin will reflect what’s happening on the inside, so feed it well. I’ll still eat that leftover turkey, but maybe I’ll skip the leftover casseroles (maybe) and grab antioxidant rich foods like, leafy greens, fresh berries and apples! Plus, foods that have a high water content, like certain fruits and vegetables will help rehydrate your body as well.

3. Scrub Up!

Ok, after you’ve taken care of what’s going on, on the inside, focus on the outside. Y’all know I love a good exfoliation, and if your skin is a little dull from lack of sleep and cold air, a little exfoliation could be just what you need.

You can find a few of my favorite exfoliating scrubs and serums here. In addition to some of my old favorites, I recently started using a facial brush, for the very first time. I’ve read rave reviews for years, but never tried one myself. Paired with a little bit of my favorite mild cleanser, my face has never felt cleaner!

4. Soak Up Antioxidants!

Antioxidants are great on the inside, and they’re great on the outside too. I can’t go into why they’re great, because that’s not my area of expertise, so I’ll leave it to the experts – Skin Resource.MD has a great video here that explains the science behind using antioxidants on your skin. My absolute favorite antioxidant rich cream to use after cleansing is Skin Resource.MD’s Baobab Skin Correction Facial Cream.

If they bottled this in a huge container, I would use it all over my body, it’s that good. I’ve already emptied a container and am on my second one. I wrote a post all about Baobab here, that outlines why it’s fabulous. What I’ll tell you here, is it has been the absolute best thing for my dry winter skin. My skin gets crazy sensitive in cold weather. Like so bad that if I get chill bumps, I get incredibly itchy all over. When I use this cream, the itch goes away, my skin doesn’t feel tight and irritated, and my skin tone is more even.

You can find other antioxidant rich products I use in this post and this post.

5. Moisturize!

The final step in refreshing that post holiday skin, is a rich moisturizer. I’m currently using Skin Resource.MD’s Ultra Rich BioLipid Cream. I first mentioned it in my fall skincare essentials post, as a go-to for dry cold weather skin. I still love it, and think it’s wonderful for hydrating tired and dry skin.

I’ve mentioned that my skin gets pretty crazy in colder weather. Did you know that acne can be a result of overly dry skin? That has been happening to me lately, because I’m human and haven’t been sticking to my own skincare routine like I want to. However, when I get back into it, after just a couple of days, my skin looks brighter and healthier again.

So go ahead, have fun, indulge a little, then bounce back and refresh your skin with me!
