I love a good holiday home tour, so I thought I should jump in on the fun. Truth is, I’m incredibly lazy in cold weather, so I really only managed to decorate my living room for Christmas. Please tell me I’m not the only one! Despite the fact that I don’t go all out, you can’t beat the comfort and peace of cozying up on the couch, while the lights from the tree twinkle. Oh the holidays, such a magical time.
Little Details: Holiday Home Tour
I’ll start with a few of the little details that go into our holiday home. Instead of buying up a large amount of decorations are once, I buy something new each year. Over the years I’ve watched the collection grow, and love thinking back on the year we bought it! A few years ago we bought the little buffalo plaid reindeer you can see by the TV, and the little ceramic red truck. When we first got the little truck, my boys could not resist playing with it, which is why it is chipped. That little chip makes me smile, just thinking back to them driving it around.
Last year I added the little house lantern you see on the other side of the TV. I didn’t take a close up of it, but I fill it with faux frosted cranberries and candles. This year, I added new pillows! Now, let me tell about the pillows, there was almost a fight up in the TJMaxx over them. I first found a set of gorgeous buffalo check pillows one morning at TJMaxx that were absolutely perfect! They were large, fluffy and beautiful. They were the only two. I pushed them around in my cart and had someone come up to me asking where I found them. I had to tell her they were the only two left, and although I wanted to share with her, I was quite happy with myself over snagging the only two. Then the littlest decided he had to go to the bathroom RIGHT NOW! So we go to the bathroom, I left my cart unattended…and someone took my pillows! Y’all! I thought for sure it was the lady who asked me earlier about them, but no, I saw them in someone else’s cart. I didn’t have the heart to say anything – so I left the store and went to Homegoods instead. I really showed them didn’t I?! I settled on the black and white fur lined pillows, and a Rae Dunn Joy pillow. I’ll look at these pillows every year and think of the red and black set that got away.

Sadly, I don’t have a fireplace, so I opt to decorate our TV console instead. Although I wish I had a pretty mantle, I do love this pretty piece of furniture, and it’s extra special because Steven and I made it together. We sized it perfectly for the space, and signed the back of it with the boys when we moved in so we could look back on it one day. If you’re curious we used these plans to build it.
The Tree: Holiday Home Tour
Back to the holiday decor. Our tree is always special to me too. Every year on Thanksgiving weekend, we head out to the tree farm to cut down a live tree. This year, we had a hard time finding a farm with Fir trees to cut, so we ended up buying this one pre-cut at a farm, but it was still a fun experience! Just like I add a new decoration every year, I also add a new ornament to our tree as well. My hope is that one day our tree will be filled with only sentimental and meaningful ornaments.
One ornament I buy every year is a frame from Pottery Barn Kids. I started this tradition on my oldest son’s first Christmas, and have continued it every Christmas. I love looking at these pictures every year, especially this one from 2016, when the littlest was terrified of Santa.
I also let the boys pick an ornament, which is why our tree currently has a lot of trains on it.
Come Christmas morning, the tree will be full of presents and I can’t wait to see the excitement from the boys! If you shared a home tour on your blog, drop the link below – I would love to see it!
