There is so much to offer in the skincare realm – sometimes so much, it can be overwhelming. While there are many great products for specific needs, sometimes you’re just looking for the bare essentials. I’m one to try it all, but when my husband asked me what he should be using on his skin everyday I had to think simpler.
He wasn’t going to slather on multiple products morning and night, despite the fact that I tried to get him to. One try of a redness reducing serum and he claimed he “broke out”. He didn’t, but I won’t argue with him.
So, I did some research and found what products from my skincare routine were the most essential and basic. Turns out, you really only need three: cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Bare Essentials Skincare Routine
Cleanser
The most essential thing everyone needs is a gentle cleanser. You just have to take away the dirt and sweat of the day. Make sure you choose one that is gentle and doesn’t strip and dry out your skin. I’m a long time fan of Skin Resource.MD Total Facial Cleansing Gel.
You can tell by my well loved bottle. This cleanser is soap free, so it just leaves you with clean skin, no tightness or dryness. It even removes my eye makeup.
Sunscreen/Moisturizer
Sunscreen is essential during the day. You have to protect your skin. To simplify your routine you can use a moisturizer and sunscreen combo like Hyaluronic Facial Solar Protector.
I like this formula because of the skin plumping hyaluronic acid, as well as the light tint that keeps the sunscreen from looking too white on your face. If you’re not into the tint, there is also a tint free version for your body and face.
At night you can use a simple moisturizer, I like this one from Skin Resource.MD and I also like Cerave.
Antioxidant Serum
The two above products cover your basics: cleanser and moisturizer/sunscreen, but this one is a bonus! If you’re going to use a serum, this is the one I would use. The Total Antioxidant Serum is full of antioxidants and retinol, to reduce signs of aging, sun spots, fine lines and uneven skin tone.
Just having these three items, will cover your bases, and it won’t break the bank. The Bare Essentials Trio is only $48 and it has lasted me a few months with daily use!
Do you have a basic skincare routine, what does yours include?
