Dry Skin Foundation Routine

This post is sponsored by Skin Resource.MD, all opinions are my own.

My skin is currently like the Sahara Desert. It’s not just dry, it’s angry. Every season has its own set of skincare struggles and hurdles to jump through when it comes to makeup. In the summer, I’m trying to keep my makeup from melting off, and in the winter I’m just doing my best to not look 80 when I when I put it on. Makeup has a way of just clinging to dry skin and it’s not a good look.

Over time I’ve come up with a routine that works for my parched winter skin, and I’m hoping it can help you to! If you want to see it in action, stop by my Instagram for an IGTv episode featuring this routine.

Winter Skincare Routine

This post isn’t going to go into detail about how to care for winter skin, just the makeup. However, I find it’s important to mention that on top of this makeup routine, I make big changes in my skincare as well. I wrote all about it in this post.

Dry Skin Foundation Routine

Now, when it comes to makeup I start with a good exfoliation. I started doing this after seeing a recommendation from a makeup artist to use glycolic pads before putting on makeup to smooth the skin. I use the Refinishing Serum from Skin Resource.MD.

The key here is to use this tip sparingly. I don’t exfoliate every day, maybe every few days or just once a week. When I do exfoliate I avoid areas that tend to get aggravated easily, like the corners of my nose.

Boost The Moisture

Visibly Moist Toner has become my best friend these days. I’m running through bottles left and right with how much I use it. I use this toner after cleansing but I also use it heavily during my makeup routine.

After I exfoliate my skin I add as much moisture as I can into my skin with a quick spray of Visibly Moist Toner. Then I move on to my eye makeup before putting on my foundation.

Choose a Satin Finish

I love a matte finish, but during the winter I look better with a satin finish makeup. PUR cosmetics are new to me. I decided to try their Love Your Selfie Foundation after a recommendation at ULTA, and I really love it. It’s hydrating and has skincare built in!

Plus, it’s a clean brand, and I’m starting to appreciate that even more. In the past I’ve used MAC Face and Body during the winter and love that one as well.

Use a Beauty Blender

I use a wet Beauty Blender to apply my foundation and I think it makes for a beautiful application! It also helps a lot with the next step.

Apply Sparingly to Dry Areas.

Dry skin doesn’t look very good under foundation, so I apply it very lightly to the areas of my face that are dry. My prune like forehead loves to just soak up foundation, so I leave it for last when I apply my makeup. The Beauty Blender does a great job of applying makeup lightly and letting you build, rather than caking it all on at once.

Top It Off With Moisture

Once, it’s all said and done, I add even more moisture to my face. I spray my Beauty Blender with more Visibly Moist Toner and dab it over my makeup.

I also use this trick throughout the day if I want to freshen up my makeup for any reason.

Don’t forget, when you take your makeup off at night, use a gentle cleanser and load on the moisturizers!
