Nothing brings me joy quite like sitting in the sun, especially after a cold winter and extra time indoors. It has been sunny and warm here lately, and I’ve spent most of my time outside.
In my haste to get outside, I haven’t been protecting myself like I should. I’m a sunscreen and hat girl in the summer months and most of the time I wear sunscreen year round, but what can I say, I’ve been lazy. It’s been months since my forehead has seen the sun and I forgot how shriveled that bad boy gets with a little sun on it. It’s not a cute look.
Last weekend, my forehead not only started getting the full on sun wrinkles, it got burnt too. So now I look like a splotchy prune, and my foundation doesn’t match the color of my skin. I’m exaggerating, but ya’ know.
So, in this season of staying home and #selfcare, I did some research and found that a few products I already had sitting in my bathroom drawer could rehab this forehead of mine.
Renew Your Skin After a Sunburn
Soothing Gel Mask: The first day of my burn, I put on the Soothing Gel Mask from Skin Resource.MD. It’s a lot like aloe, but better. You simply put the mask on, let it sit for about 20 minutes and rinse it off. This mask is not only great for a sunburn, it’s also great for moisturizing very dry skin and calming down irritation.
The mask gives an instant cooling effect, with lasting hydration. So, I put this mask on a couple times times this week. I read online that you should really hydrate sunburnt skin. Hydrated skin not only helps prevent further damage and irritation, it also promotes healing. So I continued to use the hydrating products that I use in my daily routine (Hyaluronic Serum, BioLipid cream, and Oil-Free Antioxidant Moisturizer) and also loaded up on Baobab Cream.
Baobab Cream
Baobab Cream is made with oil from the Baobab Tree, often referred to as the “Tree of Life.” It is full of vitamins and minerals that lessen wrinkles, even skin tone and reverse sun damage – perfect for a sunburn! So I started to load up on my Baobab, every night!
Crystal Clarity
Toward the end of the week, I went back to exfoliating with my Crystal Clarity scrub to get rid of some of the dead skin left behind.
A week later and my forehead is pretty much back to its baseline. I’ll still be out in the sun any chance I get, but I’ll be wearing a hat and loading up on sunscreen first!
