Last year I was able to submit some of your top skincare questions to a dermatologist at Skin Resource.MD. One of those questions in particular resonated with me. The question was, what routine, in order should women follow? It’s simple, and it’s a question we all need answered. Daily we are bombarded with ads for multiple serums, masks, rollers, scrubs, tools – it feels never ending, and also very overwhelming. The beauty industry is vast, but what you really need to be using on your face daily – is very simple. So, I felt like it was a question that deserved its very own post.

The original question asked about a routine for a woman over 35 in particular. However, it’s really a routine that anyone, male or female, can use once they’re starting to worry about aging. In particular, the dermatologist stated, “by age 35, depending on your skin type, using products that are going to provide hydration and protection are key. Daytime is about hydrating and applying sunscreen to manage any further sun damage. Night time routine is about hydrating and reviving from the elements of that day.”

Both morning and night you’re going to use a gentle cleanser (or skip the cleanser all together in the morning if you’re like me) and hyaluronic acid. What you put on after will differ between day and evening.

Morning Routine

I’ve been following this morning routine, mostly, since I first put that post together. I also add a spray of Visibly Moist Toner before I put on the hyaluronic serum.

Evening Routine

In the evening you’re going to be using your gentle cleanser and hyaluronic acid serum again, but this time, you’re going to layer on the moisturizers and retinol!

I hope this post brings you a little clarity, and also a little simplicity! I know it truly helped me last year and I’ve been using the advice ever since.
