This is the first time in my lifetime that I’m seeing trends that I remember to come back around. I’m an 80’s baby, so I remember my mom rocking the “mom jeans”, shoulder pads, big sleeves, and tapered pants. In my high school days, I remember square toe shoes and flare jeans, and feeling the need to add a big belt to every dress I put on. Styles always come and go, but it’s fun to see these things back in action that I remember seeing or wearing before.
Of all the trends going strong this season, my absolute favorite is matching sets. I’ve always had it in me to want to be matchy-matchy and full-on tonal looks are in! While I haven’t gone as far as wearing an all one color outfit down to my shoes, I’m definitely buying up tops with matching bottoms. Y’all know I love versatility and a matching set is one of the most versatile things you can buy.
8 Ways to Wear a Matching Set
The first time I mixed up a matching set on the blog was in a 10 Items 20 Outfits Post. That skirt and top are still going strong in my wardrobe, I actually wore the top and skirt together last week to work! That set was from Banana Republic, but this one is from LOFT. I appreciate that both are matching and still modest. A lot of sets you find out there have a crop top and this 30 something mom of two isn’t comfortable in a crop top.
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” around 105 pounds. I typically wear a size petite 00/xxs/24.
As a Set
The first most obvious way to wear it is together! The top and skirt together look just like a dress, so much so that when I posted it on Instagram a lot of people thought it was just that. I’m wearing the top in petite XXS, but bought the skirt in regular XXS. I tried a petite skirt from LOFT a couple of months ago and it was really short, so I liked having a little more length in the skirt. They both fit well in those sizes and the set isn’t see-through, but as always with white, I would recommend nude undergarments.

With a Denim Jacket

With White Shorts
The top all by itself goes with so many bottoms. Here I paired it with white denim shorts, but it could also look great with a pair of white or navy shorts in any material. I didn’t have any on hang, but a tie up paper bag short would also look great with this top.

To Work
The top also looks great dressed up for work! I own these pants in both the curvy fit and the regular fit (wearing here) and would recommend going with the curvy fit if you’re a little wider in the hips and bottom like me. I find the regular to be a little bit too tight and less comfortable than the curvy fit.

With Sandals
The skirt is also really cute worn casually with a tank top or t-shirt. You can also wear sneakers with this if you wanted to. Side note, I normally wear my bra racerback with this top and forgot to change it for the Reel, so my bra strap is showing and it drives me crazy! lol

Dressed Up
Change the style of your top and shoes, throw on some bigger earrings, and you’ve just dressed it up a bit.

With a Blazer
It’s hard to see the print in my photos, but the flowers have a little navy on them. So a navy blazer looks great with it too! You could use the same concept and wear a navy blazer with the top and white jeans.

With Denim Shorts
The top also dresses down with a pair of denim shorts and sandals! These shorts still remain my top pick for summer in terms of comfort, price and style!
