“You get better answers if you ask yourself better questions.” – Tony Robins
Over 20 years ago I read this quote from Tony Robins and the brilliance of this still holds true. So many times we get stuck in our heads, our lives or our emotions; but it’s largely because we keep asking ourselves the same questions. And then we keep coming up with the same answers, or non answers in some cases.
Along the same lines of ‘getting stuck’, I more recently heard Esther Abraham Hicks explain the process this way: we get the false illusion that we’re stuck because we spend more time focusing and obsessing on why we are where we’re at rather than focusing on where we want to be or go. She gave a beautiful simple analogy to illustrate this concept. Think of your car or phone GPS system, when you plug in where you want to go, it only asks where you’re at and what your destination is. Your GPS doesn’t ask why you’re at your current location; it doesn’t ask how you got there or where you were yesterday, last week or last year. It only asks where you’re at and plots a course to where you want to go, and it doesn’t ask why. You can think of your life in much the same way. Spend less time on why you are at where you are and more time on where you want to go.
I can add just a little clarity to this great concept by noting that you cannot go forward and backwards at the same time. In your car, for instance, when you head out on your journey you can only put the car in forward or reverse, not both. You cannot put the car in reverse and then wonder why you’re not getting to your destination. So if you want to get unstuck, put yourself in forward and go. And realize, if you get off track, you can get “re-routed” back towards your new future better destination.
Hope these thoughts can start many of you in the direction you want to go.
