Today we took our annual trip to the apple orchard. This is a trip we have taken for the last five years and it always ends with homemade apple pies!
I wanted to clean up my apple treat a little bit and opted for an apple crisp. This is whole grain, a little lower in fat and sugar than your traditional apple crisp, but still very much a treat!
Filling:
- 6 Cups apples chopped (about 6 large apples)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened apple butter
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping:
- 3/4 rolled oats
- 1/4 cup oat flour
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil melted
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Stir together syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and apples. Pour into a 2 quart baking dish. In a separate dish mix together your oats, flour, honey, brown sugar and spices. Pour oil over top and stir until crumbly. Spread over apple mixture.
Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes!
And nope, the ice cream on top is not healthy, good old Bryers 😉
