Today’s post is in honor of one of the most important people in my life, my big bro, Mike. Today is his 30th birthday! We spent the weekend celebrating the end of his 20s, so it is only fitting to reflect on the charismatic man that he is.
In life we all have that one person we have always looked up to and wanted to be just like. For me, it is him. I remember as kids always wanting to follow him and his friends around. Of course, as big brothers do, he pushed me away because little sisters are yucky…and annoying ;).
As adults we have long escaped our childhood battles over who’s in who’s space and who spent the most time with mom. He is one of my very best friends and still a role model to me.
He has inspired me to want to be the best I could be, as he has always strived to. He was a Marine right out of high school and traveled the world. I always envied his ability to go outside of his comfort zone, to leave his family and be independent. I still fear going things alone. For as long as I can remember, Mike has tried to stay fit and be healthy. He and his wife, (my sista) run races and make activity apart of their lifestyle. Whether its a run through the park, kayaking or a soccer game, I have always enjoyed watching them making fitness fun. They are the biggest reason I decided to add a little fitness into my life. I never was the active type as a kid. I never played sports and was pretty much just one of those lucky metabolism kind of gals. However, with pregnancy and age that started to fail me! With Mike and Erica always staying active and being healthy and fit, I knew I could do it too! Thanks to my sista, I ran my first 1/2 marathon this past winter. So Mike, thanks also for marrying a good lady ;).
Mike, thank you for being a protector, a friend and a role model. I know your 30s will be just as exciting as your 20s. Love you! (Even if you stink) ;).
