According to Coco Chanel, “before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” Just like too much icing can ruin a cake, too many accessories can ruin an outfit. Yeah girl, it’s true. The rules are always changing with the trends, anyone remember the days of big statement necklaces and matching earrings? The necklace made the statement back then, but earrings are stealing the show these days. I told you last week where to buy those big beautiful earrings, and this week, I’m going to tell you just how to wear them.
How to Style Statement Earrings
Keep the rest of your accessories simple
I like to let the earrings do the talking, so I keep the rest of my jewelry very simple. I’ve had this simple gold “B” necklace since last year and wear it constantly. It’s so simple, and beautiful and goes with everything! This year AU-Rate sent me a dainty gold bracelet to go along with it, and I can tell I’ll be wearing it just as much. Both pieces are perfect for pairing with bold statement earrings, but also just as pretty with a pair of simple pearls.
Choose your color wisely
If your outfit is plain or just a simple pattern, I think a contrasting color looks beautiful. I love wearing white and navy with my red earrings. I also often choose a color from the bottom of my outfit, or from one of my accessories, like a jacket, and match it. I’m not as matchy-matchy as my seven-year-old, but I love a good matching game.
The lighter the better
Unless you want your earlobes to hang down to your shoulders, I would opt for a light pair to style with your outfit. In my opinion, that not only feels a little more casual and easier to pair with everything, it also keeps your ears from drooping. I’ve personally prefer statement earrings with tassels vs beads.
