Mom Questions – What Is In My Baby’s Soap?

This post is sponsored by JOHNSON’S® Baby, all opinions are my own.
From those first few weeks of pregnancy, I was doing my research. What is the best way to feed the baby? What baby items do I need the most? How in the world do I swaddle?! It was a new and exciting world that quickly became very, very overwhelming.

Johnson's Baby Soap, Apron Sink Baby Bath

The information, often contradicted itself. One expert would say this was best, one mom said this worked for her, and then there were entire camps devoted to their cause; breastfeeding or no breastfeeding? I did a lot of research and then spent the first year of motherhood riddled with guilt, tears and confusion. I found myself often asking, was I always doing what was best for my baby? It was advice from my momma, that finally made me realize, that in order to stay sane, and be the best mom I could be, I would have to do what worked for me, and make my own decisions!

Ingredients in Johnson's Baby Soap

Oh but how to make those decisions! For me, it was research, trial and error, and just all around forgiveness for myself. There are lots of decisions to make as a parent, from where they’ll sleep, to what they’ll eat and even simple things, like what soap you’re going to wash your baby with.

How To Pick The Best Baby Soap For Your Baby

In our generation we’re becoming more and more cognizant of ingredients lists. After my baby was born, I wanted the best for him, so I was always checking the back of my products; whether it be food, body wash or even, cleaning products. However, since I’m not a scientist, I honestly have no idea what half of the ingredients are. So, I would often grab products that just had simple ingredients lists, that seemed innocent. What I didn’t know is that some innocent ingredients like coconut oil extract are listed under a big scary name like; lauric acid. I would see that and immediately think, “I’m not about to put acid on my baby!” Now, I know that I can do more research to uncover what those ingredient names really mean. Johnson’s® wants to empower parents to better understand how to read a label and choose safe products that are right for their babies, and have created a complete library of their ingredients on their website. From their library you can learn just what each ingredient in their product is and why it’s being used. From there you can decide if that product is for you or not!

Taking it even further, JOHNSON’S® enlisted the help of Dr. David Mays, Senior Director of Global Scientific Engagement of Johnson & Johnson to put together several video snippets to help better answer our questions as concerned parents.

He answer’s a few of my top questions in the links below:

I’m definitely guilty of getting too overwhelmed when it comes to choosing baby products. I haven’t tried the Johnson’s Natural line but I should! Neither one of my kiddos has overly sensitive skin but I still try to choose things that are gentle and without a lot of weird ingredients.

Amen girl – being a momma is so hard and there are so many questions every day about what is the best thing to do for them! I think the act of trying is really what matters and doing what feels right to you like your mom said because the worry about whether or not you made the right choice can be so crippling. You’re a great momma bear and I love these pics of little love – baby model perfect! 🙂
