Three Things to do Outside With Your Kids This Summer

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

My Kindergartner is officially on summer vacation! I remember my summers as a kid, I spent the entire time barefoot, running around outside. Whether it was building forts, riding bikes, or swimming in the pool – I was outside. I want my boys to experience the same kind of summer; barefoot and carefree. So, on top of the traditional summer activities; like swimming, riding bikes, and working in the garden – I like to put together other fun activities that keep them engaged outside.

Three Things To Do Outside With Your Kids This Summer

We don’t normally do everything all at once, but for the purpose of this post, we had one fun filled day together. We built a pool noodle course, a bubble experiment pool and had a sidewalk chalk picture contest – it was fun, let me tell you! We were able to get everything we needed at Walmart and while we were there we picked up a twin pack of AVEENO® Baby CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 50. With all of the sunshine filled fun we’re going to have this summer, I of course want the boys to be protected, so we all, including myself, wear sunscreen every day. Aveeno Baby formula is 100% Zinc-Oxide UVA/UVB Mineral Protection Sunscreen, that is gentle and hypoallergenic.

Aveeno Baby Sunscreen

I like that it is free of parabens, phthalates, dyes, and fragrance, and locks in moisture to hydrate my boy’s skin. The formula also isn’t whitening, which is plus. I’ve tried Zinc-Oxide formulas in the past that left a white film, this formula doesn’t. AVEENO® Baby CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is a favorite of ours, and it’s also currently included in an Ibotta offer! Now you can save $5.00 on the twin pack at Walmart. So, get the sunscreen on and let’s get to building some fun.

1. Pool Noodle Obstacle Course

The boys had the most fun building the obstacle course. All it takes is a handful of $1.00 noodles and a few wooden dowels. Then, you can create any course you like.

What You’ll Need:

Pool Noodles (I used 12)
Wooden Dowels

I used a mixture of wooden dowels to make the course. For the noodles that stood straight up, I used longer dowels that were sold as singles in the craft department. They were only $.50 a piece. Then for the tunnel noodles I used smaller dowels that I bought in a pack. All in all, my course cost around $15.00. You simply hammer the dowels into the ground, and slide the noodle on top, it’s easy and fun!

2. Bubble Experiment Pool

What kid doesn’t love bubbles? Heck, even I love bubbles! This activity was also cheap and easy, and tons of fun.

What You’ll Need:
A Small Baby Pool (we used a sled!)
Mixture of Bubble Wands
Bubble Solution or Make Your Own

The best part about the bubble experiment pool is letting the kids experiment with different things to make bubbles. We used a hula hoop, bubble gloves, water gun and a mixture of bubble wands. You can use other things like bubble ropes, and wire to make your own shapes too. The sky’s the limit! For our bubble pool, I used a bubble solution, but you can also make your own solution with dish soap, corn syrup and water. I hear it makes some pretty hearty bubbles.

3. Sidewalk Chalk Competition

Sidewalk Chalk Competition

Sidewalk Chalk is fun in general, but give the kids a prompt and let them create their little hearts out, and it get even more fun. My boys are about three years apart, so of course the six-year-old is a little better at drawing than the three-year-old, but the sweet part is he will end up helping his brother. On this particular day I told them to draw trucks. In the end, they’re both “winners” but calling it a “competition” gives my six-year-old the challenge to make something spectacular.

These are only a few of the things you can find us doing outside this summer. My main goal is to spend each day outdoors; it is good for the soul and good for the imagination. So you can bet I’ll be stocking on sunscreen, because we’ll be coated in it all summer long. Bring on the fun!
