The type of questions I get the most on social, circle around my true height and my jeans. “How tall are you?! Did you hem your jeans, even petite jeans are too long on me.”
The answer to those questions is: I’m 4’10” very petite – and no, I don’t hem my jeans. I’m not opposed to hemming, but hemming requires extra money, time, and often alters the look of the jeans. So, I’ve searched high and low, to find the very best petite jeans, that fit straight from the store.
Petite Friendly Denim
I’ve written about this topic before, you can probably tell it’s a popular one. Every petite dislikes the hunt for jeans, it’s frustrating, almost as frustrating as the hunt for petite dresses, but that’s for another post.
I have my favorite stores, but this year, I’ve really targeted in on certain brands and fits that I love and know will fit just from their online description, so I felt an update to my original post was in order.
Madewell Denim
I used to scoff at the price of Madewell denim. It’s expensive, and I’ve heard your feedback – you want to make sure it’s going to fit if you’re going to spend that kind of money. I can assure you, it’s the best $100 bucks you’ll ever spend. Their jeans not only fit petites (and almost everyone so I hear) very well, they’re the most comfortable, longest lasting and best quality jeans in my closet. You can also often grab them on sale and they’re much more affordable, which is what I did for most of mine.
Which fit to buy?
Ok, Madewell is great, but not all of the fits are created equal, I have to have the mid-rise. Their high-rise is 11″ inches high, higher than my belly button and uncomfortable. The mid-rise hits perfectly.
Ankle/Crop Jeans
The first pair here is my all-time favorite fit. These jeans are mid-rise with a cropped leg, perfect for booties. Unfortunately, this exact style is sold out, but there is a similar fit without distressing. I’ve had these jeans for about a year now, I wear them every week, multiple times a week and they’re still beautiful. For reference, I’m wearing a size 24 petite. Most of the Madewell jeans I’ve tried are true to size.

Full-Length Petite Jeans
The ankle or crop jeans tend to be my favorite for booties, but their full-length petite denim is a great length as well. This black pair is another favorite of mine, as well as a button front pair I wear often. If I want to wear one of these with my booties, I have to tuck them under, but they’re great with flats!

Roadtripper Jeggings
Madewell’s Roadtripper jeggings are another great pair. Roadtripper jeggings have more stretch to them than my other Madewell jeans, but the price point is lower and they have a great inseam.

J.Crew Denim
J.Crew and Madewell are sister companies, both with great jeans. J.Crew makes a 9″ high-rise jean that is perfect!
Petite 9″ High-Rise
The length of J.Crew petite jeans is great, the toothpick jeans I’m wearing here are softer in comparison to my Madewell jeans. However, that also means they don’t hold me in as well, and tend to fade quicker.

J.Crew Straight Jeans
Their straight jeans, however, are a heavier material that tucks you in so well, in all the right places. It lasts and lasts and is really figure flattering. Find ways to style straight jeans here.

American Eagle Denim
I didn’t always love AE jeans, their petites were still too long, but finding their crop jeggings has turned into love for me.
American Eagle Crop Jeggings
American Eagle crop jeggings have a nice mid-rise so they’re comfortable and flattering (not like the long backside effect the high-rise jeans have). The crop length is perfect for petites. I would recommend sizing up one in their denim as they tend to run small.
