It’s just starting to pop up with days that are hot enough for shorts around here. But, I know from talking with a few of you – it’s been hot for weeks and you’re dying to see some outfits for hot weather. So, I’m tackling shorts today! In the summer I really love to wear dresses the most, they’re the most comfortable, but shorts definitely have a place in my wardrobe too.
Four Shorts Outfits for Petites

First, let’s talk about what I personally look for in a pair of shorts. I have thicker thighs in proportion to the rest of me, so I struggle with finding shorts that don’t squeeze them. I also can’t stand when a pair of shorts ride up the back (so uncomfortable). I’m a mom of two in my 30’s so I also look for modesty overall, no super short shorts over here. I think shorts are one of the hardest things to find a great fit for your particular shape, even harder than jeans. So, These few pairs work really well for me – and I’m hoping they will work for you as well.
White Shorts
My legs haven’t seen the light of day in months, haha, so forgive me for blinding you a little bit in these pictures. Most of the shorts in this post are O.G. Shorts from Old Navy. They’re my personal favorite for denim shorts and come in lots of lengths and colors. This pair in particular isn’t see-through at all and has nude front pockets. The hem is rolled, but not sewn so just keep that in mind for washing and wearing, they may need to be re-rolled and ironed. The top is light and thin, which is great for hot weather. You’re going to need nude undergarments with it.

All Black
Black isn’t the coolest option, but it’s doable if the temps allow it. I added a jacket because spring here is mostly mild, with an occasional really hot day. You can lose the jacket and just do a simple all-black outfit with this one if you prefer.

Knit Shorts
If you’re looking for comfortable and breathable – look no further than a pair of pull-on shorts. I love this particular style from LOFT. My exact pair is from last year, but I saw they brought them back this year! I think drawstring shorts look the best with a tucked-in top or at the very least a front-tucked top. They’re comfortable but they do add volume to your lower half. The tank top I’m wearing in this outfit is very similar to the black one above in fit and cut, but there are a few more color options for this style.

Denim Shorts
The Old Navy O.G. shorts also come in classic denim. I have two of these pairs because it’s one of my favorites to wear. The top I’m wearing is a little oversized (even in xxs). I don’t mind the room, but if you’re able to you may want to size down.
