Another season, another capsule wardrobe! I initially wasn’t going to make this a 10 items 20 outfits post, I just chose my personal tried and true staples to mix and match and it just so happened to be 10 items (not including shoes and accessories). To help you find what fits your style and budget I’ll also be offering up some alternate options.
Petite-Friendly Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Denim Shorts and White Shorts
Both Pairs of denim shorts in this post are the same style from J.Crew, just different colors. I landed on this style because of the overall comfort and the longer length, which I’ve come to love. They run a little bit large, so you may wish to size down, but I prefer the roomy fit of my true size. To note, the white pair is a little bit larger on me than the denim pair, even though they’re the same size. If you want a shorter option or a less expensive option, I recommend the O.G. denim shorts from Old Navy. They come in both a 3″ inseam and 5″ inseam (my shorts in this post have a 4″inseam).
Striped Shorts
I love having at least one pair of soft comfortable shorts in my summer wardrobe. This pair is from Target and is true to size. If you prefer a solid color, they also come in different colors and prints.
Printed Dress
I love dresses in the summer and really I have more than just one. However, if you’re aiming to be streamlined and minimal, you can do a lot with a sundress that can be dressed up and down. This dress is from The Drop on Amazon. It’s lined and really well made. It fits me well in XXS.
Denim Jacket
Every capsule wardrobe I’ve created has a denim jacket in it. This layer is one of my favorites for summer. I have a few different ones in my closet, but I find the petite fit at LOFT to be the best overall. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS and it has a comfortable fit. Updated option here.
White Button Down
A gauzy white button-down is a comfortable option to layer with or wear on its own. It also works well over a bathing suit. The one I’m wearing in this post is from J.Crew Factory and fits me well in Petite XXS. I also have one from Target that is oversized on me in XS.
Slim Fit White Tank Top
The white tank top I’m wearing in the post is from LOFT and has a great fit overall. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS and it fits true to size. I wear a nude bra with it and it’s not see-through. If you prefer a relaxed fit for a layering tank or tee, I recommend this Old Navy tank top or any t-shirt from this petite-friendly t-shirt post.
Slim Fit Striped Tank Top
The striped tank top is from Madewell and fits me well in XXS. Although I didn’t find a striped version at LOFT, the LOFT tank top is a less expensive option for this capsule item. If you prefer a looser fit, you’ll like this tank top from Old Navy.
Olive Top
I love having a couple of elevated basics in my wardrobe as well. This top is basic, but the ruffle sleeves give it a little something extra. I’m wearing it in regular XXS and it fits me well.
Floral Blouse
I have a thing for prints, so even my capsule wardrobes have at least one printed top. My exact top fits true to size in Petite XXS for me.
