We’re heading back from a week at the beach and it was a much-needed break! We skipped the crowds and spent the majority of our time just sitting on the beach, so I spent the most time in a swimsuit and a coverup. It was great!
When it starts to warm up swimsuits and coverups are always on our minds and they’re something that aren’t all that easy to find. So, since I put a few to the test this week, it feels like the perfect time to share my petite friendly picks.
Petite Friendly Swimsuits and Coverups
Only one of my coverups is actually considered a coverup. Since most coverups are one size they tend to be way too big for me, so I go for things like longer button downs, dresses and your classic denim shorts to wear on top of my suits. I’ve dabbled in the kids department also, but this season I couldn’t find one that I felt was grown up enough.
Romper
Starting with my favorite and most worn coverup, this gauzy romper from Madewell. I first shared this on the blog in my Beach Vacation Post. I knew I loved it then, but actually getting to wear it on the beach and on long walks hauling a wagon full of beach gear I can say it’s a great purchase. It doesn’t ride up when you walk, it’s breathable so you can wear it on the beach if you don’t want to sit in your bathing suit only and it doesn’t wrinkle. I hung it up and wore it multiple days this week. I wore it over my suit predominately, but you can also dress this one up and wear it out.

Beach Dress
I also shared this dress in my Beach Vacation Post. In that post, I dressed it up to be worn out, but here I’m showing it over a suit. with the ties undone it’s low cut so it can show off your suit! I appreciate that the sleeves are long to cover your arms if you’ve had a little too much time in the sun or you’re cold from the beach breeze. It’s a heavy material and has major swing. My hat is a must in the sun, I always have on a hat and a big ol’ pair of sunglasses to protect my face. This hat comes in different sizes which is great for Petites. I have it in XS, but I probably should have gone with the S, I was underestimating my head size.

Skirt
Sometimes you just want to coverup your bottom but let the top of your swimsuit show and a skirt is great for that! This particular skirt is from Amazon and I chose black to compliment my swimsuit, but it also comes in several colors and prints.

Linen Top + Denim Shorts
Last is a simple linen top with a little length. You could wear this on its own over the suit which I like to do if I’m just hanging out on the beach. It’s light enough to wear long sleeves and protect your skin from the sun. You could also tie this top up and wear it out with a pair of shorts like I did in the Beach Vacation Post. The swimsuit I’m wearing with this one is my absolute favorite of all my picks and the one I wore the most this week. The top fully covers you and holds you in, no oops situations if you need to chase a few kids down and the back has great coverage. I’m wearing it in a small.

Other Beach Favorites
I’m also going to include my favorite beach tote and towel here in case you’re looking for one. I’ve had a tote from Rock Paper Flower for years that I love, it’s a perfect size and easy to throw on your shoulder. I also love the Turkish towels from Anchors Aweigh Supply Co on Etsy, they’re light and fold up small so you can easily throw several in a bag and they dry quickly.
Swimsuits
I’ll also mention and link my favorite swimsuits but I’m not going to do a full swimsuit post or video. I have had many requests but it’s just a little out of my comfort zone to be in a bathing suit in front of a couple 100,000 people. So, I’m hoping I can still help you out without the full visual. I wear and highly recommend all of the suits below. I’m linking a few prints I don’t have but I have all of the styles and can fully attest to the fit being great!

When it comes to a great swimsuit I’m looking for full coverage in the back and good support and coverage in the chest. I’m not large up top and never fill out things that are meant to show cleavage so coverage and hold are important to me. Almost all of my swimsuits come from Aerie, they have the absolute best booty coverage and they’re really affordable. I also love the suits from Albinion Fit, they’re a little more expensive, but they have great coverage all around and are durable! The style I linked has a tie in the back that’s really cute, they also have removable cups but don’t have a ton of support. The Aerie suits I linked have better support in the top if that’s something you need.
It’s always hard to come back after vacation, but I’m looking forward to powering through the last four weeks of virtual school and get summer started so these suits and coverups can be back in the rotation!
