I received an email last week asking me what my top ten closet staples were. The email made me think – then it made me think that would be a great idea for a post!
I don’t keep a capsule wardrobe formally, (which is another question I’ve been asked) but my style is very much mix-and-match by default. If I could describe my style, I would say it’s relatively simple, casual, and timeless, with some trends mixed in.
My Top 10 Closet Staples For Spring
So, when it comes to my top ten closet staples for spring, I looked into what I wear the most and what items I use as a base to build my outfits upon.
Denim Jacket
I just wrote about my love for denim jackets. They truly are a closet staple of mine and have been for years. I’ll wear them with dresses, shorts, and white denim often.

Jeans
I am a denim girl through and through. I’m always the most comfortable in jeans so my personal style includes jeans in all kinds of styles and colors. I like to have at least one simple pair of dark skinny jeans to be dressed up, and other styles to mix things up (distressed, straight, cropped, and boyfriend).

White Denim
Just as important to me as jeans are white jeans! I tend to wear my white jeans when I want to be a little more dressed up. I can wear them in my office, on date nights, and to church!
Shop White Denim
White Tee
Every season I have multiple white tops. I love the versatility, so I’ll often have several styles, from short sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve tops, to tank tops.

Sweater Blazer
The reason I love this sweater blazer so much and consider it a great staple is its great fit on petites, quality and timeless style. The blazer has a little more structure than a sweater, but gives the same comfort and coziness that throwing a sweater on does. Because of the structure, I’ve always felt this blazer elevates almost any outfit.

Blazer
For reasons similar to my love of the sweater blazer, I think every girl needs a good blazer. I have many colors, but I think classic colors like white, black, tan and navy will serve your wardrobe well for many years. A blazer is another topper that can be worn with dresses, skirts and jeans.

Button-Up Tops
I had to ask myself if a button-up top was a classic closet staple or if it fell into the category with things I mix in (like tops in general). However, there a few button up tops that have been in my closet for years and worn multiple ways – so I think they qualify as a closet staple for me. I personally feel like my chambray, white and gingham button up tops are classics for me. I will wear them with jeans, shorts, skirts and dresses all throughout spring.

Shorts
When it comes to shorts my style continues to be very simple. I’ve never been one to wear shorts that were super dressy, mainly because I find them uncomfortable. If I want to dress up in warmer weather I’ll wear a dress or a skirt instead. So, I often opt for denim shorts or comfortable drawstring cotton shorts, both an important staple of my spring wardrobe.

Spring Dresses
My spring wardrobe always has a pretty dress or two. Dresses can fall into that mix-and-match category but I have several classic styles that I’ve worn for years. When looking for a classic, lasting dress – I look for an a-line dress that comes above the knee. That style is the most flattering on my frame.

Neutral Shoes
I have a major habit of buying nude shoes. I think they’re the most flattering on me and of course – they’re incredibly versatile! My spring wardrobe includes a pair of flat sandals, wedges and heels that can be dressed up.

I’m a shopper at heart, so I’m always mixing in different styles, but I think this list encompasses my tried-and-true closet staples. Thank you for your messages and questions, it helps me build my content around what you want to see!
