Over the last 7 years I have developed a serious case of the wanderlust. Growing up my family didn’t travel a lot so it wasn’t something I thought about much, even during college. Once I finished undergrad and got my RD, I had a lot more time to think about things other than tests and grades so I suddenly became a lot more receptive when listening to people’s worldly experiences. One in particular who has largely influenced me both genetically as well as through life stories is my Grandma (aka “G-Dot”). G-Dot is a true wanderer at heart and where I am pretty certain I got the travel bug from. She lived in Iran in her youth and has all sorts of stories from her time there. Even in her elder years she is always talking about how she wants to get on a train and ride cross country. I wasn’t always like G-Dot; during college I never took the opportunity to go abroad, which I came to regret later as my travel interest started to peak. But with the decision to return to school, I finally had the chance to make-up for lost time as I went on a study abroad trip through Europe last summer. It was everything I hoped for and more. To see places I had only seen before in pictures, eat local food, learn (bits) of different languages and see how people live all over was priceless and I definitely returned wanting more. Traveling makes you realize how much there is to see in this great big world and I plan to spend my life trying to experience as much of it as I can!
