The official start of fall is about a month away, but once the kids are back in school, my mind instantly shifts away from summer. It’s still hot and humid as all get out, but I find myself longing for pumpkin spice, and deep fall colors. Reality is, even when the calendar declares the official start of fall, in VA it’s going to stay hot for the next few months. So, instead of buying sweaters and boots in the name of fall outfits, that I won’t be able to stand because of the heat, I’m going with a little bit of a different strategy this year. The best part, these things are weather appropriate now and into the warm fall.
Deep Colors
Nothing says fall like beautiful deep purple, red, green, and orange. I love the dark colors of autumn, and they don’t have to be in a sweater to be fitting for the season. Try grabbing dresses, skirts, sleeveless or short sleeve tops that would be great under a cardigan for cooler days. Light long sleeve tees are also great for now and warmer fall weather.
Mules
I bought these shoes last year after seeing them on Gina’s blog, and they have been love ever since. They served me well last fall and I know they’ll do the same this fall. I think a mule is a great transitional shoe for the end of summer and a warm fall. They have just enough foot coverage for a cooler day, while still giving you some air in warmer temps. Heeled versions remind me a little bit of booties, but flat versions are also great in the late summer and fall.

Cognac Accessories
Nothing says fall like darker accessories. My favorite cognac bag (known as English Saddle by the brand) is a beautiful neutral year round, making it great now, but I love to wear it in the fall and winter. It matches a beautiful cognac shoe perfectly!
Light Layers
Fall is layering season for sure, the mornings and evenings are often cool and the days hot. However, those light layers can also be put to work now. Grab light jeans jackets, utility jackets or lightweight cardigans to wear now and later.
