This past week my oldest was on spring break, and it gave me a little taste of summer. It was the best! I remember before he went to school thinking, I’ll have so much extra time to get things done when he’s in school, but reality is, the school year is just rush here, there, pack this, that. It’s nice to get a break from that!
We played with friends, hunted easter eggs, and helped my brother and Erica move into their new house! With summer on my mind, I also started buying some shorts. I attempted to find a bathing suit, but that was just a sad story. I love working out and just recently started Transform 20 (love) but girlfriend needs to lay off the ice cream. (If you couldn’t tell from that statement I haven’t been the best at sticking to my January nutrition aspirations.)
But, back to those shorts. Last year I found a pair of shorts at AE that I really love. Despite the fact that I sized up quite a bit, they ended up being a pair I wore constantly. So, I went back this year to get another pair and add a few others.
AE Midi Shorts
First up, the pair I loved last year. I still have that pair, but they were looking a little well loved, so I just wanted a fresh pair. The sizing is still the same – I went up to a size 6 and I’m typically a size 00, 0 everywhere else. They are still loose in my waist, but I had to size up to accommodate my hips and thighs. They’re stretchy and comfortable, but don’t stretch out, so they stay put!

I wore these on the blog here, here, here and here.

I also tried on a white pair. The sizing was the same, and they weren’t terribly see through, although you would need a pair of nude underwear.
AE Shortie Shorts
In my teens and early 20’s I lived for AEO shorts. They sat low and comfortable and weren’t tight in the hips or the thighs. The length was also great for me, not too short, but not too long. Then something happened. The styles changed and all of the awful, incredibly tight in the thigh shorts came out. Y’all, they all just looked so bad on me. I held onto my old shorts for as long as I could fit myself in them, and mourned the loss of my favorite style of shorts. That was until I saw these! After years of waiting, my old favorites are back!!!!! I had to have a conversation with myself, and of course my friends as to whether or not these shorts were too short for my 30 something mother of two self, and ultimately decided they were fine. My short legs can look so blah in a pair of longer shorts, so I’m here for the shorter inseam. I went up to a size 2 in this pair, and they are roomy, but comfortable.

I also tried on a denim mini skirt for nostalgic purposes and laughed at myself. I felt like that skirt was saying, “girl please, you’re 31, not 17 – move on.”
I could keep shopping for shorts, but if I’m honest, with one good pair of denim shorts I almost feel set for summer. Aside from dresses and skirts, most days you can find me in a pair of denim shorts, tee and sandals. I just love the simplicity of summer dressing!
Next up, bathing suits. I won’t for one second pose on the internet in my bathing suit, but will I share what I like with y’all? Yes. So stay tuned!
