In my last post about Trunk Club, I reviewed an activewear themed trunk. I mentioned there that I was going to keep up the subscription and couldn’t wait to try another trunk with everyday clothing! That trunk arrived, and was just as fun as the first one. Sadly, nothing in the trunk ended up being a keeper for me – but I learned a little bit from this experience that I think will help me get a better fit for future trunks.
Here’s what was in inside (p.s. – the links to the clothing in this post are NOT affiliate links!)
Trunk Club Review
There was a lot in this trunk – three pairs of pants, four tops, a jacket, two pairs of shoes and a dress.
I’ll start with my favorites. This ruffle sleeve top was almost a keeper. When I saw it in my trunk preview, I knew I didn’t like ribbed knits, but thought, maybe it will look better on. I did really like the fit, however, what ultimately led me to return it was that it was really sheer, wrinkles easily, and I couldn’t get over the ribbed texture.
This pair of black denim I almost kept for fit alone. They were a great fit on me! I told my stylist how short I was and what inseam worked the best on me, and she delivered! I bought this pair of booties a few weeks ago and want to like them. I ended up keeping them, and wore them to work once, but I can’t find anything in my closet that I really feel like they look good with! The majority of my pants bunch around them, they look silly with cuffed bottoms and they shorten my legs with skirts and dresses. So, what they need is a pair of pants that don’t bunch at the bottom like these! The two together, actually gave me some height! The reason I decided to return the pants was the color – they were already a faded color, which I personally don’t like. However, I’ve now found a brand that fits well, so I’ll be checking out more of what they have to offer!
The next thing I really liked and wanted to keep was this wrap top. It would be perfect for spring, but it just wasn’t a good fit for me. I loved it in my trunk preview and was hopeful, but the sleeves were way too much on my shoulders (which are already a little broad). The plus side of the top is the wrap feature made it adjustable!
These white jeans were also something I was excited to try after the trunk preview. However, they also came down to fit. They weren’t very flattering on me and were a tad on the see through side. The booties were beautiful! I really really wanted them to work for me, and specifically asked my stylist for a pair of booties to try. However, these nubby legs of mine once again, didn’t look that great in them. I have a love/hate relationship with booties – since they cut at the ankle, they don’t tend to make me look taller, but wider. My pants almost never hit right with booties either. I felt that these had the same effect on me. They’re sold out online – but came in my trunk, so that part was fun!
This peplum sweatshirt I mentioned in my blush post last week – ended up not being the best on. It was a little small for me, and I didn’t care for the seams on the front. The pumps were love! I asked to see them in a different color in a future trunk because I do really love them, but wouldn’t wear the black enough to justify keeping them.
A few things in my box I didn’t photograph – a suede wrap jacket, white dress and a pair of Kendra Scott earrings. I decided not to keep the earrings because I tend to buy most of my jewelry through Roxsbox, because it’s cheaper! The suede wrap jacket was such a cute fit, but I knew the light suede wasn’t going to mesh well with two little boys. The dress was really stinking cute – but it was white and $89. I could see my kids ruining it in no time. If it was a different color, or even a little cheaper (less likely to break my heart if it was stained), I may have kept it because the fit was really cute! I should also add, the cut was really low in the front, I would have had to pin it there if I kept it.
What I Learned
Overall I think my stylist did a great job choosing pieces for my hard to fit, petite frame. There were a few items I knew from the very get go I didn’t need/weren’t my style (the earrings, ribbed top, white dress and jacket) and I should have been honest up front. There was also a pair of pants in my box I knew were way out of my price range – I didn’t even try them on, I should have noted that from the beginning, instead of letting them ship in the trunk. I have this tendency to be afraid to say things to people because I don’t want to hurt their feelings. I literally felt bad telling my stylist I didn’t like some of the things, like I was going to hurt her feelings! Isn’t that silly. How can she do her job if I’m not honest?! So, next time, I plan to be better about my feedback and honest up front if I know I won’t like something before even trying it.
I still loved the service and the opportunity to try something styled! I’m looking forward to more trunks. If you want to learn all about the ins and out of Trunk Club, check out my first post here.

I Think you made the right choice, I would not have kept them for the same reasons.

Darn, that’s too bad. The sleeves on the wrap top were really cute but I would have returned it as well. Always fun to see what works and what doesn’t. Have a wonderful day beautiful!
Oh my gosh! These tops are gorgeous but sometimes you have to say no.
That’s a bummer you didn’t keep anything, but fit is really important!! Everything did look amazing on you! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
Thanks for the honest review!! I’ve been so curious about them!

You got some really great pieces in this box, but I agree with you that the active wear themed box had better pieces. I do love that wrap top and would have loved seeing the jacket on you!

What a bummer that the things didn’t work out for you, Brooke, but like you said, now you know what to expect and to request for next time! Thanks for sharing!

It was fun to see your try on session and reviews even if they didn’t all work out! But I have no doubt you’ll be glad you were picky about fit and are saving your $$ for something better.

Those black jeans do look amazing on you! You will have to buy more in that brand.
Sometimes I think we have these expectations and that can be discouraging. I have sometimes found that the pieces I wasn’t as gung ho about at first, end up being my faves!! But when things don’t fit, they don’t fit….and I bet the next box will be better. It’s trial and error.

The Trunk Club sounds interesting and I may give it a try! Thanks for sharing your experience!
I think you got some great pieces here. It’s hard to let go and let someone else shop for you though. I did Natalie Attired and it went really well but I was skeptical at first. Cheryl @ http://www.northwestmountainliving.com
I’ve always wanted to try this service! Love your outfits!

I have been contemplating trying this service but now I think I am going to… loved everything you got even if they didnt work out! Thats pretty much the story of my life lol 🙂

These are the most darling pieces, and loving all the pretty details. Sorry not all the pieces worked out, and yessss to being honest up front <3

These are great pieces. I am totally with you on the ribbed knit thing, no thank you! I can’t believe you didn’t like the fit of the white jeans, they look fantastic!

Such a great and honest review! Both of the jeans look great on you – but it stinks that they bunch and are too long. That happens to me, too. I’m happy that you at least told us about some petite brands that may work!

I would love to try this sometime. That blush top is just adorable on you, but I hate when something is just a tad too small, so I get why you returned it.

Thank you so much Elise!! It was more the way they looked in the back, they bunched on my thighs!
Fit can be so difficult for me, but it was still a lot of fun trying brands I hadn’t tried before!
It’s so hard to find the right fit, but I still love the service! I know my stylist will get to know me better too and I’m hoping we’ll be able to find better fits!
Thanks Samantha! I really enjoy it!
It is! This is my first go at it, and I feel like I’m missing the control a little!
You’re welcome Suzanne!
I was thinking the same thing, so I went ahead and tried the things I didn’t love right off. I’m looking forward to another trunk to try!
I will! I’ve already been looking at other pairs by them!
I agree! I’m really trying to be better about what I buy and pass on. In the past I would just settle for things that weren’t a great fit, then would end up not wearing them enough!
Yeah! I’m excited about the next box and the chance to be honest up front!
I liked the activewear box a little more too. I should have shown the jacket but it was really cute, I would have kept it if it was a different color.
It’s definitely a fun service!
Thank you Biana! Probably the most difficult part of letting someone style for you is them getting to know what fits best on you! Hoping that my future trunks will be a better fit!
I struggled, like almost kept that wrap top, but looking back at the pictures I’m so glad I didn’t, those sleeves were so much on me!
It was such a cute top, but as my son said – I looked silly! Haha!
I’m always trying to be a better shopper like you!
Yeah I was a little bummed nothing was a winner this time around, but like you said, I found some new brands that work well for me!
So hard to find a good fit when it comes to jeans! Especially white jeans – they show everything!
It was really hard to get it off an on, but it was cute!
Thank you so much for your honest review, Brooke!
Sending love from Napa!

Despite the fact that nothing worked out, you look beyond adorable in all the outfits you created. So cute. I love all the tops they sent you Brooke. Better luck next time!
Welcome by tomorrow to link up!
The items were all really cute, but I can see why they didn’t work out. I would have thought the same things!
They look cute but it’s too bad it didn’t work out.

I feel like the first few times of doing this would be a little trial and error. Style takes time to learn and I do think your stylist is on the right track. I have never tried a service like this mainly because I love shopping! And some of the price points they have are a little out there. I am a big second hand shopper!

You win some, you lose some. I still want to try Trunk Club, though—I’ve heard much better things about it (versus Stitch Fix).

All of these pieces are super cute! I haven’t tried Trunk Club, but now I’m interested!
Such cute pieces! It’s a bummer non of them really worked out, but I’ve learned with these styling services that it sometimes takes a delivery or two to nail your style down. I’m going to have to give Trunk a try!

I adore these pieces, my favorite are those black pumps as well! http://mariannyc.com/2018/02/01/february-goals/
The black jeans & black booties look amazing! I have trouble finding jeans that are the right length too, and sometimes when I get jeans hemmed the ankle opening isn’t skinny enough anymore, you know what I mean? Anyways, I’m excited to check out that brand! It’s too bad you didn’t want to keep anything from this trunk, but at least you have an idea of what you like and don’t like moving forward!
xo Jules
You got some really cute stuff in your trunk! I hate none of them really worked, but I am loving hearing about the process. Can’t wait to see what you get in the next one.

Those are really cute tops and pants and how fun to have a stylist to help you pick and choose items but I also totally understand if your heart isn’t into it then it’s best to return. I am sure the next shipment will have more gorgeous picks!
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
I’m thinking so too! Gotta have that first start for the stylist to get to know me!
Thank you!
I’m excited about the next one too!
I know exactly what you mean about the ankle opening, it’s so frustrating!!
I think those were my favorite too! I want them in a tan color!
I was thinking that was probably the case, I’m looking forward to the next one!
It’s really fun!
Thanks Angie!
True statement! I haven’t tried stitch fix but I really like that Trunk Club is through Nordstrom since it’s a place I already shop a lot.
You’re so right Ruth! I’m a bargain shopper myself so I’m not sure if I’ll love that everything is basically full price in every trunk – I love a good deal!
Thank you!
Yeah but that’s ok, still always fun to try things!
Luckily there’s no remorse for sending it all bad – I hesitated at first, like I have to buy something! But I’m glad I didn’t commit to something that I didn’t love.
You’re so sweet Ada! Thank you!
Thanks for reading Paulina!
So cute!
I love your outfits so much. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful inspiration.

What a fun link up!!! Thanks for hosting! <3 – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
I think I’d feel the same way, like I was going to hurt their feelings. It’s great you are learning how to tell them more of what you are looking for though. Have a great weekend!
Happy promise Day….!!!

Absolutely cute tops dear, especially the pink blush! Such a chic and happy color!

I think you do such a great job dressing your body. I like seeing the pieces on your and hearing why you didn’t keep them. Side note: I LOVE the booties you have with the black jeans. If you can find a pair of black jeans you like they will be perfect.
