Healthy, happy, you! 2017 is your year girl; the year you build a fitness routine and stick to it! Whether you’re working toward a set of six pack abs or just want to be healthier in general, we have the fitness hacks you need to succeed!
Mix it up. The only way you will stick to your new routine is if it feels great and is fun! Keep it interesting by mixing short and efficient HIIT workouts with weight training and lighter yoga days.
Join an affordable gym. A great way to vary your routine is by joining a gym that offers fitness training programs and a wide range of equipment, so your workout can be different every day! The affordable part will keep your wallet happy! Planet Fitness is currently running a special $1.00 enrollment for new members January 1-11. After that you’ll only pay $10.00 a month! Planet Fitness offers a judgement free environment and unlimited small group fitness instruction by a certified trainer, included in all memberships. Plus, many gyms are open 24/7 to fit your schedule. You can search for your local Planet Fitness here.
Find your motivation. Grab a fitness buddy who will keep you on track. You can also find great motivators on social media, like Instagram. If you’re into printed motivation, subscribe to your favorite fitness magazine, so fresh workouts and healthy recipes will show up in your mailbox each month.
Add activity to your daily life. Not all of your work has to be done during your workout. There are small ways you can add a boost to your activity throughout the day. You can do squats while you blow dry your hair, do a wall sit while you brush your teeth, calf raises while standing in front of the stove and park farther away for a longer walk to the store. You can even make use of that long commute to and from work by doing ab squeezes. Just engage your core, hold for 5 seconds, then release. Speaking of office tricks – if you don’t already have a standing desk, look into whether your company will supply you with one. If not, grab a large stability ball to use in lieu of a chair. You will constantly engage your core and move a little better as you can bounce and roll side to side as you are working. Frequent movement and muscle engagement is the key element in staying healthy and fit!
Workout in front of a mirror. Avoid injuries that will take you out of the game by watching your form! Working out in front of a mirror will help you to see if you’re not engaging your core or are holding your neck a little too tight. Little tricks like coughing to engage your core and holding your tongue to the roof of your mouth during sit ups will help you keep good form!
Don’t forget to stretch! Soreness from your workouts can also keep you from your daily workout. Be sure to finish each workout with a nice stretching routine, for at least ten minutes. A few times a week, you can also include a foam rolling routine to release any tension in your muscles. Not to mention, when you’re well stretched, you will avoid injury!
