When it comes to winter workwear, neutrals are the MVP of any wardrobe. They’re clean, polished, and effortlessly mix and match. Today I’m sharing six neutral winter outfits for petites, all styled with two of my favorite petite trouser options from Ann Taylor and Aritzia— the Perfect Wide-Leg Pants and the Effortless Trousers and boots for warmth.
Both pairs offer elevated tailoring and beautiful drape, but they differ in rise and inseam. Below are my exact notes and the outfits I created so you can confidently choose the perfect fit.

6 Neutral Petite-Friendly Winter Work Outfits
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Ann Taylor Perfect Wide-Leg Pants (Petite)
- Rise: 10″
- Inseam: 28.5″
- Fit: Available in Standard and Curvy; Curvy fits my proportions best
- Sizing: I wear Petite 00 Curvy
- Shoe Compatibility: The 28.5″ inseam is perfect with my 2″ heeled boots
- Notes: Classic, drapey, flattering — perfect for the office
Aritzia Effortless Trousers (Short)
- Fit: These run small — I go up one size
- Length: Short inseam is 29″
- On Me: A touch long even in heels, but still wearable and beautiful (and how they’re meant to be worn according to Aritzia)
- Notes: Lightweight, sleek, easy to dress up or down with neutral layers
The Outfits
Below are six neutral winter work outfits that are polished enough for more formal offices while still flexible for business-casual environments. I paired each look with just a few tops and boots to keep you warm and dry all season.
I often get asked how to style workwear with boots, especially as a petite. My biggest tip is to choose a boot with an elongated toe — something that visually mimics a pump. A pointed toe with a slimmer heel is ideal, but if you prefer a different shape, a square elongated toe works beautifully as well.
I personally choose full-length trousers when wearing boots. While boots can be styled with ankle-length straight pants, on my 4’10” frame they draw attention to the hips and visually shorten the leg line. Opting for full length creates a longer, cleaner silhouette.
