10-Piece Petite-Friendly Spring Casual Capsule Wardrobe (15+ Outfit Ideas)

For this spring capsule wardrobe, I decided to try a slightly different approach than I have in the past. Instead of creating one large, all-encompassing capsule, I built a mini capsule wardrobe with just ten pieces that mix and match easily.

My goal with this approach is to create multiple capsules throughout the season that work for different style preferences and lifestyles. While this capsule is smaller, I still focused on classic wardrobe basics that you may have seen in previous capsules and I can reuse in future capsules.

In this casual spring capsule wardrobe, I focused on comfortable pieces that can be worn with flat shoes, making the outfits easy and practical for everyday wear.

The capsule includes:

Three bottoms: dark wash jeans, white jeans, and casual pants
Four tops: a striped button-down, white t-shirt, denim button-down, and a beige sweater
Three pairs of shoes: sneakers, flats, and sandals

To complete the looks, I added two bags, a scarf, and a hat as optional accessories. With these ten core pieces, I was able to create 15+ petite-friendly casual spring outfit ideas that are easy to mix, match, and repeat throughout the season.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

3 Bottoms

Dark Wash Wide-Leg Jeans: Quince 24 x 28″ in Midnight Blue

I chose one of my most-worn pairs of jeans for this capsule: the Bella Wide-Leg Jeans in Midnight Blue. I wear them in my true size, 24, with the 28″ inseam. The style starts at a 26″ inseam, so there are a few length options depending on the fit you prefer.

If you’re unsure which inseam to choose, I recommend erring on the side of going a little longer. I’ve found that these jeans shrink slightly in the wash over time, both in length and overall fit. Mine have shrunk about an inch in length and feel a bit more fitted than when I first bought them.

If you want to minimize shrinkage, wash them in cold water and hang them to dry or tumble dry on low. Admittedly, mine have been tossed in with the rest of my laundry more than once—washed on warm and dried on high—which has added to the shrinkage.

I have given these jeans the stretch test and they loosened lightly but didn’t bag out.

White Wide-Leg Jeans: Banana Republic Factory Petite 24 in White

I chose the Wide-Leg Jeans from Banana Republic Factory for this capsule because they’re well-priced and have a great fit. The silhouette is a slim wide-leg, similar to the Bella jeans, which makes them especially nice for petites.

The denim is a comfortable medium weight and doesn’t feel sheer to me. Since they’re white, you’ll still want to wear nude underwear to keep them from showing through.

The jeans are true to size, and in petite they have a 10″ rise and a 27.5″ inseam. They do shrink slightly in the washer and dryer. Mine have shrunk about ½ inch in length over time.

Navy Crepe Wide-Leg Pants: Artizia Lodge Pants in XXS Short in Admiral

I chose the Lodge Pants from Aritzia for this capsule, and I was finally able to grab them in my size in the Short length, which fits me perfectly. In XXS Short, the pants have a 28″ inseam, which works well for me with flats.

The inseam may increase slightly as sizes go up, so that’s something to keep in mind when choosing your size. The pants will also appear longer if you wear them lower on your hips—I’m wearing mine at my waist, which shortens the overall length a bit.

I technically sized down to XXS in this pair. I often choose XS at Aritzia because their items can run small, but in the Lodge Pants I found XXS to be the best fit.

They are currently low in stock, but this pair of pants from BR Factory is very similar to the Lodge Pants and they are less expensive.

4 Tops

White T-Shirt: Quince Stretch Cotton Jersey Fitted T-Shirt in XS

I chose this white T-shirt from Quince as a base layer for the capsule because I love the fit. It’s made from a blend of 91% organic cotton and 9% spandex, which makes it breathable with a comfortable stretch.

The T-shirt has a slim fit that’s easy to tuck in, making it a great layering piece. I’m wearing it in XS, and I would only recommend sizing up if you prefer a more relaxed fit.

Striped Button Down Top: LOFT Petite Striped Poplin Everyday Oversized Pocket Shirt Petite XXS

I chose an oversized button-down from LOFT in a neutral brown and white colorway. Even in my true size, Petite XXS, the fit is intentionally very oversized.

I like to wear it a few different ways—tucked in, open as a layering piece, or worn untucked. The relaxed fit gives outfits an easy, casual feel that I love for everyday looks.

Denim Button Down Top: J.Crew Petite Garçon classic chambray shirt in dark wash Petite 00

I included a denim shirt in this capsule because it can work like a lightweight denim jacket when layered, but it can also be tucked in and worn as a top on its own.

This option from J.Crew comes in petite sizing and is well proportioned with a classic fit. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS.

Denim and chambray shirts are also very easy to find—most retailers carry some version of them. So if you prefer a different price point or style, there are plenty of great options out there.

Beige Sweater: Quince 100% Organic Cotton Boyfriend Crew Sweater XS in Speckled Beige

For the cool, transitional weather of spring, this sweater is a great piece to have in your closet. It’s 100% cotton, washes well, and I love the soft color.

I wear it in XS, and aside from needing to cuff the sleeves, the fit works really well for me. Since it’s made from 100% cotton, it’s also worth noting that the sweater can shrink slightly in the wash if you want it to.

In terms of other mini capsules I have floating around in my head, I’m thinking about exploring different color combinations and styles—like a capsule that focuses more on activewear, one with more dresses and skirts, and even a few travel capsules.
