For spring’s in-between weather, I pulled together a mix of petite-friendly outfits with light jackets, easy layers, and shoes like ballet flats and sandals. These are the kinds of looks that work when it’s chilly in the morning and warm by afternoon — all proportioned with petites in mind.

Transitional Outfits for Spring
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Warm Layers in Soft Colors
As much as I want spring to hurry up, it usually stays pretty cool where I live until April or even May (with the occasional warm, lucky day mixed in). I start craving lighter colors this time of year, but I still need outfits that actually keep me warm.
For this look, I styled the Wide-Leg Jeans from Banana Republic Factory in white with a boyfriend sweater from Quince in Speckled Beige. It’s an easy, petite-friendly spring outfit that feels light and fresh but still works for chilly mornings. The sweater has an oversized fit, but the high-low hem gives subtle shape at the waist so you don’t have to tuck it in (which I know many of you appreciate).
Not pictured is a great layering piece underneath: the 100% cotton vintage T-shirt from Old Navy. It’s one of my favorite base layers for transitional weather.
I’ve reviewed these wide-leg jeans multiple times on the blog, and they continue to be a favorite. They’re not see-through in white, often priced under $50, and true to size. In petite, they have a 10″ rise and a 27.5″ inseam, which makes them a great option for petites looking for white wide-leg jeans that don’t overwhelm your frame.
I’m starting to gather up ideas for my spring capsule and I’m thinking these pieces may be included.

Jeans and a Cute Top
In this outfit, I’m wearing one of my longtime favorites — the Bella Wide-Leg Jeans in Midnight Blue — paired with a lace-detail top from Gap. The white version sold out quickly (no surprise there), but it’s still available in blue and black. I’m wearing the top in Petite XS and love the fit — great proportions through the shoulders and sleeves without feeling boxy.
The Bella Wide-Leg Jeans are such a good option if you’re looking for petite-friendly wide-leg jeans that still feel polished. The dark wash makes them easy to dress up, whether you’re heading to dinner, work, or just want your everyday outfit to look a little more put together. They come in inseam options, starting at 26″ but keep in mine all of my Quince jeans have shrunk about an inch in the dryer. I wear the jeans in 28″ and shown here they have a 27″ inseam.
For shoes, you could absolutely go with ballet flats if it’s still cool out. But on a warm spring day, I love these sandals. I’ve been testing a lot of spring shoes lately to narrow down my true top picks, and this pair is definitely one of the best sandals for petites this season.

Cropped Utility Jacket
Speaking of the millennial uniform, I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving a good utility jacket. This cropped style from LOFT has a slightly oversized swing fit that feels modern without overwhelming a petite frame.
I paired it with a simple cotton tank and the same wide-leg jeans from Quince for an easy, petite-friendly spring outfit. It’s one of those layered looks that works perfectly for transitional weather — lightweight, versatile, and easy to mix and match with pieces you already own.

Trench Coat
Every spring, I reach for a trench coat. It’s my go-to layer when I want an outfit to feel a little more polished without trying too hard. The Icon Trench from J.Crew has been a staple in my wardrobe for a few years now. It has a classic length and a slim, tailored fit that works beautifully for petites. I wear it in Petite 00, and it does fit slim through the arms, so if you plan to layer thicker sweaters underneath, you may want to size up.
Here, I layered it over a navy cardigan and soft neutral striped jeans from PAIGE Denim for a classic spring look. The jeans have a 10.5″ rise and a 25.5″ inseam, which gives them a cropped fit that’s perfect for spring shoes like ballet flats or loafers. They’re true to size and not at all see-through, making them a great option if you’re looking for petite-friendly cropped jeans that still feel elevated.

Spring outfits can feel a little tricky when the weather can’t quite make up its mind, but this is the time of year can be fun getting dressed. Light layers, fresh colors, and pieces you can mix and repeat in different ways — that’s really the goal. Whether you’re reaching for white denim, a utility jacket, or your favorite trench, I hope this gives you a few easy, petite-friendly ideas to wear what you already love in a new way.
