It’s November, which to me means, the official start of the holiday season! Be prepared for lots of holiday themed posts from us, this one being the first!
Last Christmas Eve, we were running from house to house, visiting family and friends, when I realized I was completely out of baby wipes in the car and my toddler had dumped an entire box of chocolate milk all over his car seat. What mom doesn’t keep a full stock of wipes, diapers and a change of clothes? Me. Truth is, I forget diapers and wipes, all. the. time. We were eventually late to dinner due to our stop at CVS for a last-minute pack of wipes and a quick change of clothes, but can I just say for being open on Christmas Eve, it was seriously #CVSHuggiesHeroes that night!
So, knowing this holiday season is going to busy, between shopping, cooking and traveling, I’m trying to be better prepared. Instead of relying solely on my diaper bag, which at times isn’t adequately packed, I’m making a car kit as a back up!
Contents
- Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean Wipes – lots of wipes
- Diapers
- Change of clothes for each kid
- New toy distractions
I grabbed a cute tote and went to work. This particular tote didn’t come with dividers, so I just added a heavy-duty organizer to keep my items separate.
I dropped by CVS and picked up their last two packs of Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean Wipes for my kit.
The Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean Wipes have been a favorite of mine since my baby shower, when I was gifted a pack. The clutches are so cute, dermatologically tested, easy to carry around and are refillable. I like to grab them with a few diapers and toss them into the bottom of the stroller when we head out in lieu of the whole diaper bag. I actually already have one I keep in the car now (obviously not last year during the chocolate milk fiasco) but I figured for my emergency kit, it was good to have a couple more packs on hand! Not only are they great for kid messes, I also use the wipes to clean up spots in the car and wipe my dash when it gets dusty.
Next, a change of clothes. Kids always need a change of clothes for those unexpected accidents. From oops, I didn’t make it to the potty, to my car seat was thirsty for some chocolate milk, we should be prepared. I chose to add a pair of PJs for each of the boys as well, since we’re going to be visiting a lot of family this year, if our visits run late they will already be dressed for bed once they hit the car. If I had a bigger tote or maybe didn’t need the space for diapers, I would include a roll of paper towels and a few plastic bags, because kids are messy!
I also added a few small, new to my boys, toys and books. If you’ve ever done a lot of shopping or traveling with a small child, this will make sense to you. Sometimes they just need something new to distract them and if the toy is totally new to them, the time it will distract them is even greater!
Ta-da! Step one to an organized holiday season. Now, to get busy with my holiday shopping…
