Petite-Friendly Dresses for Fall: How to Style Them with Boots
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Sam Edelman Sylvia Boots
Finding the right pair of knee-high boots as a petite isn’t easy. In this post, I’m wearing the Sylvia Boots from Sam Edelman. They have a slim shaft that’s 15.7 inches tall and just hits the bottom of my knees. They come in several colors, with a wide calf option too, and run true to size. What I love most is the slim shaft—it fits close to my legs, which makes them perfect to wear with dresses.
Four Fall Outfits with Knee High Boots and Dresses for Petites
Here, I’ve styled three dresses from my last post with boots and added one new option. I didn’t include all six dresses because some didn’t feel right with knee-high boots—the length or fabric just didn’t work. Those dresses still pair well with layers like jackets or cardigans, but for fall, I’d style them with ballet flats instead.

How to Wear It:
The length and shape make it easy to style with knee-high boots. I added a chunky belt to define the waist and balance the outfit.

How to Wear It:
Since it has short sleeves and a softer look on top, I styled it with a chunky belt, statement earrings, and a large bag for balance. For layering, you could drape a sweater over your shoulders or add a waist-length cardigan or jacket.

Corduroy Shirt Dress (J.Crew Factory)

- Fit: runs small -if you choose petite, size up. If you opt for classic sizing and you’re petite, choose your true size
- Length: 34″ in classic 00 | 31.5″ in petite 00 – the length goes up as the sizing goes up
- Fabric & Care: 100% cotton | Machine Washable
This long-sleeve corduroy dress comes in both petite and classic sizes, but I found the classic length worked best for me. It’s 100% cotton, has functional buttons, and fits true to size in the classic cut.
How to Wear It:
This was the most requested dress to style with boots. I paired it with knee-high boots and a slim cognac belt to add shape. The boots balance out the long sleeves, and you can layer with a cropped cardigan, waist-length jacket, or even a sweater draped over your shoulders.

The Cornelia dress is perfect for fall with its thick, textured ottoman fabric and easy shift style that layers well. The gold color I’m wearing is mostly sold out in petite, but it also comes in dark cherry—which would look beautiful with tan boots and a scarf.
How to Wear It:
Style the Cornelia dress with knee-high boots for a simple, balanced look. Add a scarf for warmth, or added interest. I’m wearing my scarf draped like a poncho – hitting on a big trend for fall. The dark cherry shade would be especially striking paired with tan accessories.

How to tie a scarf like a poncho
In case you’re curious, here is how I tied the scarf like a poncho—a great layering trick for petites in fall outfits.
- Drape the scarf evenly over your shoulders
- Meet the scarf at your chest, grab a knot and secure with a hair tie
- Take the scarf off and flip it over so the knot is worn on the inside
- While holding the knot drape the scarf back over your head and leave one arm out
