A dress is the ultimate one-and-done outfit, especially for transitional weather. In this post, I’m sharing six petite-friendly fall dresses that are perfect for the season’s changing temperatures and easy to style for the fall transition.

Six Petite Fall Dresses
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

A corduroy shirt dress is a perfect choice for fall. This long-sleeve style from J.Crew Factory is available in both petite and classic sizes. I tried both and preferred the length of the classic fit. In petite 00, the dress measures 31.5″, which felt too short. In classic 00, it’s 34″ long, which works much better for me. Keep in mind, dress lengths can vary by size—on the J.Crew Factory site, a size 6 classic is listed at 36″. The dress is made of 100% cotton with no stretch, and the buttons are fully functional. Fit-wise, the petite version ran small, but the classic sizing felt true to size. I would size up in either option if you have fit issues at the chest or hips since the dress doesn’t have any stretch.

Chambray Tie-Waist Shirt-Dress

This chambray dress from J.Crew Factory is really well-proportioned for petites. I love that it’s modest, with full back coverage, short sleeves, and a v-neck that isn’t too low. In petite 00, the dress measures 43.5″, and in petite 8 it’s listed as 47.25″. It has functional buttons, pockets, and comes with a fabric belt you can swap for a leather one if you’d like. The dress isn’t lined, but the fabric isn’t sheer, so it’s not see-through. Made from 100% cotton, it’s also machine washable.

Petite Printed Tie-Waist Midi Shirt-Dress

This printed floral dress is the same style as the chambray one above, with the exact same fit and sizing. The main difference is that this floral version is fully lined and lighter in weight, making it a better choice for warm weather. The chambray dress is a bit heavier, so it works well for cooler days. Both the lining and the body are 100% cotton, and the dress is machine washable.

Mockneck Knit Mixed-Media Dress

This dress comes in two fall-ready styles. I’m wearing the solid burgundy version here, but it also comes in a black-and-leopard combo. The fit runs small in the arm openings, so I recommend sizing up for comfort. The top is a stretchy cotton and elastane blend, while the skirt is unlined 100% cotton. It’s not see-through, but the structured cotton fabric does wrinkle with wear.

Boden Natalia Jersey Tea Dress

The Natalia Jersey Tea Dress from Boden is a comfy, stretchy option in a gorgeous fall print. It features functional buttons, pockets, and subtle puff sleeves. While the waist isn’t elastic, the fabric has plenty of stretch, making it comfortable and forgiving. I also love that it’s modest, with full back coverage and a v-neck that isn’t too low. According to the Boden size chart, it runs true to size—I wear it in Petite 0. The dress is also available in five other print options.

The Cornelia Ottoman Dress is a great weight for fall. I love the long sleeves, textured ottoman knit, and large side pockets. The fabric has a little stretch and fits true to the Boden size chart. Made from a cotton and polyester blend, it’s machine washable and easy to care for. It also comes in four additional solid colors. The shift cut is one of the easiest styles to layer, making this one perfect for the cooler season ahead.
