When I think of a sweater dress, for some reason, I always think about the classic shift style sweater dress that is more than likely a turtleneck. I love that style of dress, but when it’s too long, which is often the case when you’re on the short side, it’s not the best look. Not only did I find a few dresses in that style that are a perfect petite length – I also found sweater dresses in other styles that you can wear for different occasions!
Sweater Dresses for Work
First, this sweater dress from Express is not petite, but it fits me well in their regular sizing, plus the extra length I get because of my height – makes it more work appropriate. I’m wearing an XS. It’s soft and I love the unique style. The dress has an open back, so if you want to style it for work you’ll need a blazer or sweater on top.

A midi dress that’s actually midi-length is always an exciting find for me! I’m often asked if Petites can wear midi skirts and dresses and I think it’s a big yes! The key is finding the options that work with your height. The most successful midi-length things I find are in petite sizing, but some are lucky finds that work in regular sizing. This dress is in Petite XXS and I love that it can be worn with boots for a warm winter work outfit.

A classic turtleneck sweater dress! I think this one is work-appropriate because it’s not too short and it’s not too tight. I belted it, but it looks great without the belt as well. This sweater dress. is also thick and warm. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS.

Casual Sweater Dresses
Now for a few classics that can be worn casually and sort of casual/dressed up. All three of these are from Abercrombie. The first one I’m wearing in regular sizing and would recommend staying with that because the petite is really short.

I almost didn’t even include this one in the post because it’s too short for me in the petite version that I ordered. However, I’ve had many requests for sweater dresses that are shorter, so I decided to keep it as an option. It does come in regular sizing as well – which I would recommend for more length. You can also wear this one with tall boots, which I would have prefered, but I wanted to show you other styling options.

The last of the casual dresses is great in petite for wearing with tights and flat boots like I did here. This look wouldn’t work if the dress was too long. You can also wear this outfit with tall boots as well. To note, this dress has long and roomy sleeves – even in petite, they come over my hand.

Date Night/Party Sweater Dresses
I’ve already shared both of these dresses in the holiday outfit post this week, but since they’re sweater dresses as well, I decided they deserved a spot in the petite-friendly sweater dress round-up.
I’m wearing this dress from Amazon, in a size small and it’s thick and fits me well. I’m not wearing the belt it comes with and I’m also wearing it on my shoulders instead of off the shoulder – which makes it look a little bit different on me, than it looks on Amazon.

This black one fits very well in small, which makes me think it runs on the small side. The wrap at the top stays put and doesn’t drop too low. You can add tights and boots for warmth or dress it up with heels.
