Thanksgiving will always be one of my very favorite holidays. It’s the one holiday that there isn’t a huge let down after the celebration is over. You eat all day, spend time with family and then roll right into the Christmas season, it’s just such a happy time. For the last eleven years (as long as I’ve been married) we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving pretty much the same. With the exception of a few years in between, we have hosted dinner at our house. We start out the morning watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade on TV. In between, I spend the morning cooking and texting my friends about the Black Friday deals. We’ll get to that tradition in a minute. Although all of the family comes over in the afternoon, my mom and dad try to come over a little early and spend the day with us. The longer we can spend time together, the better! When we moved into our new house, I chose a big kitchen table with Thanksgiving in mind!
Thanksgiving Traditions
I typically leave the turkey cooking to my hubby and I will cook your traditional casseroles; green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole and corn casserole. LOTS of casseroles, it’s filthy and I love it! After we eat, late in the day, I may squeeze in a quick nap before heading out with my girlfriends. Black Friday shopping has been a tradition of ours for as long as I can remember. I didn’t shop it as a kid, but my best friend and her sister and mom were avid shoppers. She passed that love down to me and we created our own tradition. We used to go out right before midnight, but now with some stores opening earlier, we go out around 8 or 9pm. We literally shop the entire night, most of the time not going home until the next morning around 9am. I always bow out about then at least, but my friends have shopped straight through until 2pm. They’re crazy. We get deliriously tired, hopped up on too much Starbucks and just have so much fun.
Thanksgiving Outfit
Since my day is spent cooking, possibly napping and then shopping – I’m going to keep my attire casual. Jeans or leggings are always my go-to, with a cute pair of flats and a little gingham! I recently bought a J. Crew Downtown Field Jacket, when J. Crew ran a 40% off sale for cardholders. I have a quilted version that I love and wanted to add the lighter version to my closet. It then turned frigid of course, but the field jacket is a classic for fall and into spring, so I don’t regret the purchase one bit.
Shop The Post
My Kitty, respectfully named “Bush” was stalking the whole time I took the pictures, so of course she had to join in. Her name is Bush because she’s a bushy girl, lol. She’s there for Thanksgiving too of course.

After I sleep off my shopping binge, we load up the boys and go on a tree hunt, then spend the weekend decorating the house for Christmas. It’s such an exciting and fun time of year! What holiday traditions do you have?
