My pre-children self had expensive taste. Expensive jeans, expensive shoes and bags too. But, that all had to change when I became a mom. I opted to work on a very part time basis when our first son was born, which meant my shopping budget went way down. Although I still love getting dressed and looking put together, I had to find ways to save money and still get the look I wanted. In comes these affordable jeans that I find myself buying year after year, from Old Navy.

Old Navy Rockstar Jeans

I’m not loyal to one denim brand, but last year I bought my first pair of Old Navy’s Rockstar jeans and fell in love. They come in petite and right out of the bag, they fit! I am a little on the curvy side on the bottom and I love the way the Rockstar jeans hug my curves. Plus, these jeans are almost always under $40 and sometimes even around $20 when you catch a sale. Despite their price, they hold up well. I have a pair I’ve been wearing on a weekly basis since last year and they’re still going strong.

I just bought this pair of high waisted Rockstar jeans to try and love them! They are my first pair of high waisted jeans, because I’ve been pretty much hesitant to try them. When the trend started to pick up last year, I just couldn’t do it. I thought of high waisted denim as “mom jeans” and I wasn’t ready to take that step. Y’all, I didn’t even try on the first pair and decided I didn’t like them. Well, I started to fall in love with high waisted workout leggings and it finally dawned on me that denim would probably be just as great. So, I caved, stepped out of my little bubble and tried a pair. I’m glad I did!

All talk of jeans aside, what’s my life been like lately? My son just started Kindergarten and it has forced me to really step up my mom game. I’ve mentioned in the past that by nature I’m a fairly unprepared person. I would describe myself as being in between an organized person and a go with the flow kind of person. I’ve never been one for strict routines and overly planned days. However, with him being in Kindergarten and t-ball and boy scouts and this blog and my job and, and, and…it was time for me to get more organized.

A bag that goes everywhere and holds everything; from groceries to books.

So, last year I started keeping a planner and never turned back. I’ve developed routines that I stick to for after school, bedtime and in the morning. I’ve taken it even further and upped by prepared game by packing a bag every day with whatever we need – whether it’s a bag full of distractions and snacks if I have to take the littlest to the office with me or a bag full of clothes and diapers, the bigger the better. I’ve been using this Rock Paper Flower Tote (c/o) a lot lately for that purpose and also as a reusable shopping bag, it’s been pretty great! All of this is so unlike me, but I’m enjoying the change!
