The Winter Hat & Oh, Hey Girl! Link-Up

Ok so what do you call the hat that I am wearing today? A beanie? A toboggan? A knit cap? I’ve always referred to this style of hat as a beanie. I remember during my first semester in college down in good ol’ North Kakalak, one of my NC friends called it a toboggan. We got into a debate regarding the proper naming of this hat, my argument being that a toboggan was a sled. I know there are many variations on what people call it depending on where they are from. I’m from Virginia and feel like many of my friends also refer to this hat as a beanie. So, I want to know, what do you call it and what part of the country/world are you from?

I can’t believe this hasn’t been posted yet – but here in Canada we call that kind of hat a toque. (pronounced TOOK). A toboggan is a sled, a beanie is a very thin hat worn for fashion (and not warmth) and that toque is very cute.
    Love your sweater too.

  30. 2.17.16

Very cute look and hat! Since I am from the south, most would call it a toboggan (although I also refer to sleds as the same). My boys have always called them beanies, and I suppose I typically do as well.

I called it a beanie until I heard someone refer to it as a pom pom hat – and then I confused! It is cute hat, though. I would think of sled for toboggan, too.

Thats so funny! Must be a southern thing (even though my friend from NC protested that, saying I was from the south since I was from VA but I’m from Richmond which is kinda more neutral seeing as we are only 2 hours below DC – at least that was my argument lol).

  89. 2.26.16

  90. 2.26.16

That’s not boring. 🙂 I actually had never heard it called a toque before this post – so interesting!

  91. 2.26.16

Thank you so much!! You are so sweet! I just cut my hair (this was taken before) which I am kind of regretting because I’m having a harder time getting the curls right. Its all about starting from the innermost layer of your hair and then keep working your way out. 🙂 Use clips to help hold the hair you are not curling out of the way.

  92. 2.26.16

Yay! I feel like beanie is definitely a more prevalent nickname.

  93. 2.26.16

I feel like pom pom hat is actually a more appropriate term for this style of hat. lol Thanks girlie!
