A capsule wardrobe is a curated collection of versatile pieces that mix and match to create multiple outfits. It can serve as the foundation of your wardrobe or function as your entire closet, making getting dressed simpler and more intentional.

This winter workwear capsule wardrobe includes 17 core pieces (plus optional shoes and accessories) styled into 30+ outfit ideas. I carried over several staples from my fall workwear capsule, so you don’t have to start from scratch—this capsule is designed to build on what you already own while transitioning seamlessly into the winter season.

Each piece was chosen with versatility and comfort in mind. The outfits work just as well with polished flats as they do with boots, and I’ve shown both options to suit a wide range of climates—from mild winters to colder weather. Last winter, I chose pants that I mostly wore with heels or boots, but this season, I wanted you to be able to take these pieces into the transitional weather of spring as well, so I looked for petite-friendly inseams that could be worn with flats.

Since some items are pulled from the fall capsule, a few may be low in stock or sold out. If that’s the case, I’ve included similar alternatives.

2026 Winter Workwear Capsule Wardrobe

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Added Shoes & Accessories

I didn’t include the shoes or accessories in my item count for the capsule because I included more options than I typically do. I typically choose just a few pairs for the capsule but I had many readers request different things. So, I wanted to show different options for different preferences. I also added a coat to some of the outfits to show how I would layer it for winter, but I did not include the coat in the capsule item count.

I built this capsule with three things in mind:

  1. A true petite fit – Every piece is shown unaltered on me at 4’10”. I’ve included sizing notes, rise, and inseam measurements for each bottom so you can compare your sizing to mine.
  2. Versatility – I aimed to create versatility that can be appropriate for different dress codes, climates and seasons.
  3. Quality – Quality is important to me. The pieces I recommend aren’t always the least expensive item you can find, but they’re high quality items that will last you for many years to come. I choose timeless items that stand the test of time against trends. Although some of the up front investment is high, your cost per wear with these items is low. However, I recognize that everyone has different budgetary needs and will suggest less expensive options if they’re available.

30+ Outfits

This capsule includes 7 tops, 3 layering pieces, 3 blazers, and 4 bottoms, creating more than 30 outfit combinations for winter.

In case you’re curious, here is how I tied the scarves I’m wearing the in capsule outfits.

17 Capsule Pieces

Tops (7 Pieces)

1. White Button-Down – J.Crew Factory Petite XXS

  • 100% cotton
  • Machine Washable

I chose this top because it has a slim, tailored fit that tucks in easily, but also looks nice on it’s own. It’s a little sheer, so I recommend a nude bra underneath. (less expensive option)

2. Cashmere V-Neck Sweater – Quince (Oatmeal) XS

  • 100% cashmere
  • Hand Wash Cold

I carried this sweater over from the fall capsule wardrobe. The soft neutral color is beautiful year-round, and I always go back to the versatility of the v-neck. It is slightly oversized with sleeves that I cuff. I also included the  matching wrap as an added accessory. You can pin this to wear to work or just wrap up in it at your desk. (less expensive option)

3. Black Cardigan – Gap XXS

  • Cotton 57%, Modal 39%, Elastane 4%
  • Machine Washable

I’ve been loving long cardigans styled with the bottom few buttons left undone. The fit feels lengthening and is perfect if you prefer not to tuck in your top. I’m wearing this one in XXS, and while it does have some stretch, it fits a bit slim overall—sizing up would be a safer option. It isn’t a petite style, so the sleeves run slightly long on me; I’m wearing them cuffed under for a better fit. (less expensive option)

4. Mauve Cardigan – Madewell XXS

  • 75% Merino Wool, 25% Silk
  • Dry Clean

I chose this cardigan for the color and how well it layers over a button-down. In XXS, it fits true to size overall, though the sleeves are slightly long on me. You can wear it tucked in since it has a slim profile, but it also looks great untucked.

5. Wrap Cardigan – Aritzia XXS in Heather Nomad Taupe

  • 48% Viscose, 31% Polyester, 19% Nylon, 2% Elastane
  • Hand Wash

I first purchased this cardigan in black and went back for another color because I love it so much. The fabric is tightly knit, well made, and has a bit of stretch. The peplum shape is especially flattering, and it’s a great option if you prefer outfits where the top isn’t tucked in.

It runs true to size, though the sleeves are long on me—I wear them cuffed under. You can wear it on its own or layer it over a long-sleeve top or button-down. I haven’t had any issues with it coming undone, but you could add a discreet pin or layer a top underneath for extra security if needed.

6. Olive Sweater – J.Crew Factory XXS

  • 100% Cotton
  • Machine Washable

I love using crewneck sweaters in workwear outfits because they feel polished and easy to style. The Teddie Sweaters from J.Crew Factory are a great fit for petites through both the body and sleeves. They’re lightweight enough to wear comfortably in warmer weather, but still work well as a layering piece during the winter months. I find it to fit true to size overall, but it has a slim fit, so size up if you want a little wiggle room.

7. Gray Cashmere Cardigan – Quince XS

  • 100% Cashmere
  • Hand Wash

This 100% cashmere sweater is incredibly soft and fits well on a petite frame. I don’t own much gray, but I loved mixing it into the capsule with unexpected colors like olive and chocolate brown. It runs true to size, and the sleeves are shorter than most Quince sweaters, so I can wear them without needing to cuff. (similar sweater)

Layering Tops (3 Pieces)

1. Long Sleeve Everyday Mockneck Tee – J. Crew Factory XXS in Black

  • 58% cotton/39% Modal rayon/3% elastane.
  • Machine Washable

I love wearing turtleneck or mockneck tops as a layering piece in the winter. This from J.Crew Factory is lightweight and has a great petite fit. (similar option).

2. Long Sleeve White Top – Quince XS

  • 91% organic cotton, 9% spandex
  • Machine Washable

This long sleeve top is a perfect basic. It’s true to size, just a touch long through the sleeves. It’s not see-through and has a clean, polished fit. It’s perfect for layering or wearing alone.

3. Merino Wool Knit Top – C2O2 (Amazon) XS in Chocolate

  • 78.6% Lenzing lyocell, 17.1% Wool, 4.3% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

This top is an Amazon find. It’s lightweight, a blend of wool and lyocell and makes a great base layer. It’s a little bit sheer, so I use it mostly as a base, but you could wear it on its own – just be sure to wear a nude bra. It’s not itchy, even with the wool content and is a warm layer. I like the mock neck and subtle draping of the fabric.

Blazers (3 Pieces)

1. Plaid Blazer – Banana Republic Factory Petite 00

  • 57% polyester, 39% wool, 34% other fibers
  • Machine Washable

This plaid blazer is a returning favorite from two fall capsule wardrobes. The blazer is thick and warm with a wool feel. It is fully lined so I don’t note any issues with it being itchy. The blazer has a boxy modern cut. The sleeves just touch my hands—not a perfect tailored fit, but close enough for petites. I like to wear the sleeves pushed back. When I first built the capsule, this blazer was still in stock in some sizes, but has since completely sold out in petite. This plaid lady jacket was a contender for the capsule and pairs easily with all the color combinations I built. I included it in one capsule outfit for an example of the fit and styling. ( less expensive option)

2. Slim Everywhere Ponte Blazer – Banana Republic Petite XXS in Ganache Brown

  • 71% birla livaeco™ viscose rayon, 24% nylon, 5% spandex.
  • Dry Clean

This Ponte Blazer from Banana Republic Factory has a slim fit and is a little shorter than the other blazers in this capsule. It’s stretchy and comfortable and is a perfect color match to the crop flare pants that are also in this capsule. It runs slim overall, so I recommend a size up for the most comfortable fit.

3. Madelyn Blazer – J.Crew Petite 00

  • 61% recycled polyester/28% viscose/6% elastane/5% polyester
  • Dry Clean

J.Crew is my go-to for a perfect-fitting blazer. The Madelyn blazer is beautifully tailored with a perfect petite fit through the shoulders and sleeves. It’s a year-round staple that was also from the fall capsule wardrobe. It has a long modern fit with a drawn-in waist for shape. In my true size, it’s a slim fit, but it still has some room to layer underneath. (less expensive option)

Bottoms (4 Pieces)

1. Straight Everywhere Ponte Ankle Pant – Banana Republic Petite XS

  • 10″ Rise / 26.5″ Inseam (Size Petite XS)
  • 85% Cotton/ 13% Polyester / 2% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

This is a pull-on pair of pants with plenty of comfortable stretch. They feel like your favorite leggings, but the thicker fabric and seaming down the front and back give them a more polished look. In petite sizing, they have a 10″ rise and a 26.5″ inseam. I find they run snug through the waist and thighs, so I sized up for a better fit. The thicker fabric adds a bit of warmth, and they pair well with both flats and boots.

2. Bella Relaxed Straight Jeans – Quince 24 x 28″ in Stormy Blue

  • 72% Organic Cotton / 26.5% Lyocell / 1.5% Spandex
  • 10.5″ Rise / 28″ Inseam (other options available / 7.5″ Leg Opening (Size 24 x 28″)
  • Machine Washable

The Bella Relaxed Straight. They’re true to size, offer light support without feeling restrictive, and provide a subtle lift in the back without riding up. This style also starts at a 26″ inseam, making it a great option if you need an even shorter length. To note, the jeans shrink in the wash, most of mine have shrunk about an inch over time.

3. Perfect Wide Leg Pants – Ann Taylor Petite 00 Curvy Fit in Black

  • 10″ Rise / 28.5″ Inseam (Petite 00 Curvy)
  • 62% Polyester / 28% Viscose / 6% Elastane
  • Machine Washable

These pants have a clean flat front and a slim wide leg that my readers love. They are overall true to size, but if you’re pear-shaped like me, the curvy fit is the best fit. They have a 10.5″ rise and 28.5″ inseam which only works on my height low heels or heeled boots. (I included this pair in my winter capsule last season).

4. Crop Flare Everywhere Ponte Pull-On Pant – Banana Republic XS in Ganache Brown

  • 10″ Rise / 26.5″ Inseam (Size XS)
  • 85% Cotton/ 13% Polyester / 2% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

This pair is very similar to the straight style, but with a cropped flare. I chose standard sizing instead of petite, so they wouldn’t feel cropped, which gives them a perfect full-length fit on my frame. They have the same comfortable stretch as the pair above, and I love the rich brown color. I also sized up in these for the best fit, and they’ll be included in my capsule wardrobe as well.

In the upcoming series I will break down the outfits by the pants so you can easily browse and shop each outfit.
