I recently rounded up a few pairs of jeans and pants from Walmart to test the fit for my petite friends. Walmart has some great budget-friendly options, but I’ve often found their sizing to run a little large for my typical 00/XXS frame. I wanted to see how a few of their current styles compared, especially when it comes to fit through the hips and thighs and overall length.
The short version is that the jeans are still quite long for petites, even in short sizing. However, I did find a few options that fit well through the body, which hasn’t always been my experience with Walmart sizing. Depending on your height and proportions, you may need a little hemming or a taller heel to make the lengths work.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Sofia Margot Wide Leg Jeans
Size: 0 Short | Rise: 10.5″ | Inseam: 30″ | Leg Opening: 22″
Fabric: 67% cotton, 32% polyester, 1% spandex
Starting with my favorite pair from this roundup, the Sofia Margot Jeans have an excellent fit through the waist, hips, and thighs. They’re fitted through the top with a dramatic flare at the bottom.
They have a 10.5″ rise, which is right around my preferred rise for jeans. The 22″ leg opening creates a wide flare, and I love the way they fit through the body without being too tight or too loose.
The one downside is the length. Even in short sizing, these jeans have a 30″ inseam, which is quite long for me. I’m wearing them with a 2″ heel, and they’re still a little too long.
If you’re willing to hem your jeans or prefer wearing taller heels, I think these are worth considering. They’re my favorite of the four styles for overall fit, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well they worked through the hips and thighs.

Scenario Mid Rise Bootcut Jeans
Size: 0 Short | Rise: 9.5″ | Inseam: 29.5″ | Leg Opening: 16″
Fabric: 76% cotton, 22% polyester, 2% elastane
The Scenario Mid Rise Bootcut Jeans are another pair that worked well for me. They have a slimmer bootcut silhouette with a 16″ leg opening, making them a little less dramatic than the Sofia flare jeans.
They have a 9.5″ mid-rise, along with comfortable stretch denim. I’m wearing them in 0 Short and find them to fit true to size.
With a 29.5″ inseam, they’re still long for petites, but I was able to make this pair work with a heel. If you prefer a mid-rise jean or a more subtle flare, I think these are a great option to consider.

Sofia Wide Leg Jeans
Size: 0 Short | Rise: 10.5″ | Inseam: 30″ | Leg Opening: 22″
Fabric: 72% cotton, 27% lyocell, 1% spandex
The Sofia Wide Leg Jeans have a unique design with a pleat running down the front of each leg. They have a generous wide-leg silhouette and a relaxed fit that gives them a modern look.
With a 10.5″ rise and a 22″ leg opening, these jeans have plenty of volume through the legs. The cotton and lyocell blend also gives them a different feel from traditional denim.
Unfortunately, these ran a little too large for me. I’m wearing 0 Short, but the fit is roomy through the body, and I would recommend sizing down for the best fit if you’re able to.
They also have a 30″ inseam in short sizing, so they’re another pair that will likely require hemming or a taller heel on a shorter petite frame.
While these weren’t the best fit for me personally, I do think they’re worth considering if you prefer a relaxed, wide-leg style and can size down.

Scenario Ponte Pants
Size: 0 | Rise: 10″ | Inseam: 27″ | Leg Opening: 17.5″ – 28″ is noted on their site, but I measured 27″
The Scenario Ponte Pants are a knit option with a comfortable, stretchy feel. They’re a dressier alternative to jeans and could work well for casual office outfits or everyday wear.
They have a 10″ rise, a 27″ inseam, and a 17.5″ leg opening. Unlike the jeans in this post, these pants only come in one length.
The 27″ inseam actually worked well for me, making these the most petite-friendly option in the roundup when it comes to length.
Unfortunately, the overall fit was quite large. I’m wearing a size 0, and they’re roomy on me through the body. I would recommend sizing down if possible, but for someone who typically wears 00/XXS, there may not be a smaller size available.
Although the length is great, the fit isn’t quite right for me. However, if you typically find Walmart pants to fit well through the body, these may be a comfortable option to try.

Which Walmart Jeans and Pants Are Best for Petites?
Of the four styles I tried, the Sofia Luxe Vintage Flare Jeans are my favorite for overall fit. They fit beautifully through the waist, hips, and thighs, which can be difficult for me to find in budget-friendly denim. The biggest drawback is the 30″ inseam, so you’ll likely need a taller heel or some hemming.
The Scenario Mid Rise Bootcut Jeans are another great option. They’re true to size, comfortable, and worked well for me with a heel. I also appreciate the slightly shorter 29.5″ inseam and less dramatic flare.
The Sofia Wide Leg Jeans and Scenario Ponte Pants were both too large for me, but they may work better if you’re able to size down.
