For these eight petite-friendly work outfits, I’m mixing and matching two pairs of pants with blazers, cardigans, flats, and heels to create polished combinations you can wear throughout fall.

Both pairs of pants have petite-friendly proportions, but they offer two very different fits. One is a slim cropped flare with a mid rise, while the other is a comfortable wide-leg ponte pant with a full-length fit. I styled similar tops and layers with each pair to show how easily you can create different outfits from a few versatile workwear pieces.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

J.Crew Kaya Pants

The first pair of pants is the Kaya Pants from J.Crew. They are a slim cropped flare style.

In petite sizing, they have a 9.5″ mid rise that comes just under my belly button and a 25.5″ inseam. I find these pants to run narrow through the hips and thighs, so I sized up for a more comfortable fit to Petite 0.

They’re also stretchy and machine washable, which is always a plus for workwear. The fabric is a blend of 61% recycled polyester, 28% viscose, 6% elastane, and 5% polyester.

The cropped flare works especially well with flats, but you can also dress them up with heels.

Banana Republic Factory Ponte Wide-Leg Pants

The second pair is the Ponte Wide-Leg Pants from Banana Republic Factory. I now own these pants in three colors because I love the combination of comfort and polished style.

They have a wide-leg silhouette with a clean, flat front, but the soft and stretchy ponte fabric makes them incredibly comfortable. They’re also machine washable and made from a blend of 68% rayon, 28% nylon, and 4% elastane spandex. In petite, they have a 10″ rise and a 27.5″ inseam.

I’ve previously styled these pants in black and navy on the blog, but I especially love this chocolate brown shade for fall. Unfortunately, this color is already selling out quickly, but the style is one I recommend in any of the available colors.

They fit true to size for me, and I’m wearing Petite XXS.

Outfit 1: Green Cropped Flare Pants + Plaid Blazer

For the first outfit, I paired the green J.Crew Kaya Pants with a plaid blazer from Banana Republic Factory. The plaid brings in those classic fall colors and works especially well with the green pants.

This blazer has a classic length and a great petite-friendly fit. I’m wearing my usual size, and the sleeves come right to my wrist without needing alterations. As a base I included a sleeveless top from Quince. The Quince top is one of my favorites. It’s a blend of cotton and cashmere and has a great fit, I’m wearing it in XS.

Outfit 2: Brown Wide-Leg Pants + Plaid Blazer

I styled the same plaid blazer and oatmeal base with the chocolate brown ponte pants for another fall work outfit. So whether you like to mix it up or just prefer a more relaxed look, these wide leg pants are a nice option.

The rich brown pants also pull out the warmer tones in the plaid. The pants have a 27.5″ inseam in petite which may work well with flats or heels depending on your proportions.

Outfit 3: Green Cropped Flare Pants + Green J.Crew Blazer

For a matching set, I paired the Kaya Pants with a J.Crew blazer in a similar shade of green.

When it comes to a high-quality blazer, J.Crew is one of my favorite places to shop. Their petite blazers consistently have some of the best proportions and fit for me overall. This blazer is definitely more of an investment piece, but the fit and quality are beautiful.

I’ll be sharing a full post soon comparing some of the brands where I find petite-friendly blazers, ranging from budget-friendly options to investment pieces like this one.

Outfit 4: Brown Wide-Leg Pants + Green J.Crew Blazer

The green blazer also looks beautiful with the chocolate brown wide-leg pants. To tie the colors together I added the scarf over my shoulders and tied to the front.

Outfit 5: Green Cropped Flare Pants + Brown Cardigan

For a more relaxed business casual outfit, I paired the green cropped flare pants with a rich brown cardigan from Banana Republic Factory.

The color is what initially drew me to this cardigan. I’m wearing XXS, and while it fits well overall, the sleeves are too long for me. I wear them cuffed and pushed back, which works well and keeps the extra length out of the way.

Outfit 6: Brown Wide-Leg Pants + Brown Cardigan

I also paired the cardigan with the chocolate brown ponte pants for a tonal brown outfit.

Mixing slightly different shades of the same color is an easy way to create a polished outfit without having to think too much about coordinating pieces. I’ve mentioned before but I love the trick of wearing the bottom buttons undone to the waist of your pants. It’s a great way to add balance if you’re looking for an option other than tucking in your top.

Outfit 7: Green Cropped Flare Pants + Peplum Cardigan

With the cropped flare pants, I also brought back a peplum cardigan from Aritzia that I included in a winter capsule last year.

I love the shape of this cardigan. The fitted waist and peplum silhouette pair especially well with the slim shape of the Kaya Pants. I’m wearing it in Nomad Taupe in XXS, and it fits true to size. The sleeves are a little long on me, so I wear them cuffed under.

Outfit 8: Brown Wide-Leg Pants + Tan Blazer

For the last outfit, I went with a mostly brown base by pairing the chocolate ponte pants with a cowl-neck top from Quince. I layered a J.Crew blazer in a beautiful shade of tan over the top.

The different shades of brown and tan give this outfit a rich fall look while still being neutral and easy to wear to work.

If you’re looking for tops that layer well underneath blazers without adding too much bulk, stay tuned. I have another post coming soon with a roundup of some of my favorite layering tops for work.
