I’ve found one of the most comfortable yet professional pairs of pants I’ve ever worn. They’re ideal for teachers who are on their feet all day, professionals who travel and need to stay polished, or anyone who wants to look put together without sacrificing comfort.

The Wide-Leg Pants You’ll Love Wearing to Work
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Banana Republic Factory High-Rise Wide-Leg Ponte Pant
I found these pants while searching for a more affordable alternative to the Banana Republic ponte pants I included in my winter workwear capsule. Banana Republic Factory has quickly become a go-to for me — their petite pieces are well proportioned, reasonably priced, and consistently good quality.
I ordered two styles: a wide-leg pair and a straight-leg pair. The straight-leg style was too long for me, but this wide-leg version is perfection. I honestly wish I had found these before creating the capsule — I would have loved to include them (a capsule remix post might be in order).
Fabric: 68% rayon, 28% nylon, 4% elastane
Rise / Inseam: 10″ rise, 27.5″ inseam
Fit: True to size
Care: Machine washable
The fabric is soft and stretchy, and I absolutely love the fit. They have a high rise with a button-and-zip closure and slash pockets in the back. They’re just as comfortable as pull-on pants, but with the added polish of real trousers — not leggings.
Fit-wise, these are spot on for me. I often struggle with stretch pants feeling tight through the thighs and hips, but this pair drapes beautifully. The silhouette is a slim wide-leg that’s perfectly balanced — not too narrow and not overly wide.
I haven’t put them through a full wash test yet, but I’ll report back. The fit is so good that I plan to hang them to dry rather than risk shrinking them in the dryer.
Four Ways to Wear
I styled the pants four ways for a casual work environment. I went with flat comfortable shoes to match the comfort of the pants.
With a White Button Down
A white button-down is a timeless piece you can reach for again and again, and it pairs beautifully with these pants. I’m wearing the capsule Cotton Poplin Top from J.Crew Factory in Petite XXS. It has a slim, tailored fit, but it is slightly sheer, so I recommend wearing a nude bra.
To finish the look, I added a scarf to tie in some color and layered my J.Crew Icon Trench on top for a spring-ready outfit. The Icon Trench has returned for another season, cementing its status as a true classic. I’ve owned mine for several years and reach for it season after season.
One fit note on the coat: in petite, the sleeves run a bit slim, so if you plan on layering heavier pieces underneath, you may want to size up.

With a Cotton Sweater
The Teddie Sweater from J.Crew Factory is a slim, 100% cotton sweater that works just as well layered as it does on its own. For this outfit, I went tonal with a light blue sweater paired with navy pants, then tied the look together with a navy scarf. I finished the outfit with comfortable flats, choosing a pointed-toe style for a bit of extra polish.

With a Cropped Trench Coat
I love how easy it is to dress these pants up or down. If you like wearing sneakers to work, they pair perfectly with a more casual outfit. For this look, I styled them with a jersey cotton top from Quince and a cropped trench from my fall capsule wardrobe. The cropped jacket is from Aritzia.
Fit note: I recommend sizing down in the jacket for the best fit. I’m wearing it in XXS — it runs slightly oversized, and while the sleeves are a bit long, the buckle details make them easy to cinch and push back.
To finish the outfit, I went with slim-profile sneakers: the Gola Badminton sneakers in a navy-and-white colorway, which keep the look comfortable while still polished.

Organic Cotton Fisherman Cardigan
Lastly, I styled the pants with a relaxed cotton fisherman cardigan from Quince. The cardigan is thick and warm, making this a cozy winter outfit when paired with these pants. I finished the look with ballet flats, but this outfit would look just as good with sneakers for a more casual feel.

If you’re on the hunt for work pants that are genuinely comfortable but still look professional, this pair is hard to beat. I love how easily they transition between outfits and how well they work with flats, sneakers, and layers. For petites especially, finding pants that fit well without alterations can feel like a win — and these are definitely a staple I’ll be reaching for again.
