Earlier this month we spent a week at Myrtle Beach, doing all of the traditional beach things; building sandcastles, swimming in the pool and eating way too much. I’ve been to Myrtle Beach many times, but I was a lot younger and kid free in those days. So this time around, instead of spending all of our time catching a tan and shopping, I wanted to explore a little. We looked on our map for places to see in the Grand Strand and found Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach Park, just outside of Murrell’s Inlet.

We should have checked the website a little better before making the drive, because we were disappointed to see we arrived a little too late and couldn’t get in (seemed to be a trend with us). Although we couldn’t walk through Atalaya, we were able to walk around the outside and explore the grounds, and did our fair share of window peeping. And duh, took blog pics!

Atalaya Castle was beautiful, even just from the outside. Constructed of brick laid in many designs, including my favorite herringbone. It was grand and ornamental and I can imagine the Huntington’s lived quite the fabulous life in this seaside retreat. I would give you the full history, but I’ll leave that to the experts, here.

What I Wore

This was my first time wearing this Lilly Pulitzer skirt, that I purchased last year. I do love Lilly, but I don’t buy it often. I picked up this skirt last year during the end of the year sale for a steal. I’ve tried it on many times since then and haven’t worn it because I felt like it was a little too short. I decided Lilly was perfect for vacation, and after asking my husband 1000 times if it looked ok, I took the skirt out for a spin. I’m glad I did! After wearing it out and photographing it, I realized it’s really not as short as I felt like it was and will be wearing it a lot more! I love the fit and of course the cute print! I paired it with my simple bow back top from Loft and my Miller sandals, which have become my most worn pair of shoes so far this summer. They were the only shoes I took on vacation and I didn’t miss any of my other pairs.

Summer Outfit With Lilly Pulitzer

I’d say our summer is off to a great start! Although our big vacation is already behind us, I’m hoping to plan many more adventures for us to go on. When we get back to Myrtle Beach, I’ll definitely be visiting Atalaya again, so I can go inside!
