The Best Blazers for Petite Women: 4 Brands I Recommend

Blazers are a great layer for the office, but I also love them for dressing up a pair of jeans for a more polished casual outfit. If you’re looking for a petite option with proportions that work well without alterations, I’m sharing the four brands I recommend most.

At 4’10”, I typically wear Petite 00/XXS in blazers and pay close attention to the fit through the shoulders, sleeve length, and overall length. Over the years, I’ve tried petite blazers from many different brands, and these are the ones I’ve found to have the best overall fit at different price points.

1. J.Crew & J.Crew Factory: Best Overall Petite Blazer Fit

If I had to choose just one brand for petite blazers, J.Crew would be my top pick. Their petite blazers consistently have some of the best overall proportions for my 4’10” frame, particularly through the shoulders, sleeves, and overall length.

J.Crew blazers are also high quality and have the structure and details I look for in an investment piece. The regular prices can be high, but J.Crew often runs sales throughout the year. Their holiday sales can be particularly good, sometimes reaching around 40% off, which is when I think their blazers are an especially great buy.

For a less expensive alternative, I also have a lot of success with J.Crew Factory. I find the petite fit to be very similar to J.Crew, including the sleeve length and overall proportions. The quality isn’t quite the same as J.Crew, but the lower price point makes Factory a great option if you want a well-fitting petite blazer without investing as much.

I have purchased many J.Crew Blazers over the years, this year I recently purchased the Margeaux Blazer. It has a modern long fit, with a drawn in waist. The fit is true to size and all around perfect. The blazer is also lightly stretchy, so it’s comfortable to wear and easy to move in.

2. White House Black Market: Best for Comfort + Polished Style

White House Black Market is another brand I’ve had a lot of success with for petite blazers. Their petite sizing tends to be well proportioned through both the shoulders and sleeves, which are two of the areas where I notice fit issues most often.

I especially like that White House Black Market often offers blazers in comfortable stretch and ponte fabrics. These styles have the polished look of a traditional blazer but are softer and easier to move in, making them a great choice if you wear blazers for long workdays.

If you don’t love the stiff or structured feel of a traditional blazer, their ponte options are worth looking for. They work well with trousers and skirts for the office but can also be worn more casually with jeans.

The blazer I’m wearing in this post is a cropped, one-button style. Many petites will appreciate that this one is shorter in length, making it easy to wear with pants, skirts, and dresses. It’s soft and stretchy and has a true-to-size fit. I’ve had mine for some time, so this exact color is sold out, but I see that it is available in navy if you’re interested in this style.

3. Banana Republic Factory: Best Balance of Fit + Price

For a balance of petite-friendly fit and price, Banana Republic Factory is one of my top choices. Their blazers are often under $100 during one of their frequent sales, and I’ve found the overall proportions to work well on my petite frame.

The sleeves can occasionally be a touch long on me, but they don’t cover my hands, so I can still comfortably wear them without alterations. Overall, I find the shoulders and body to be well proportioned in petite sizing.

Banana Republic also makes excellent petite blazers, and the quality is typically a step up from Factory. However, their blazers are at a much higher price point. Personally, if I’m going to invest that much in a blazer, I tend to choose J.Crew instead. The exception would be if Banana Republic has a unique color, print, or style that I can’t find elsewhere.

For everyday workwear, Banana Republic Factory hits a nice middle ground between budget and investment pricing while still offering a good petite fit.

The blazer I’m wearing here is a sculpted stretch blazer. It’s shorter on me than on the model, giving it more of a classic fit. The blazer is lightly stretchy and fits true a size through the shoulders and body; the sleeves touch my hands.

4. Kohl’s: Best Budget Petite Blazers

If you’re looking for a petite blazer on a budget, Kohl’s is my top pick. I’ve found options around the $50 mark, and while the fit isn’t always perfect on me, it’s better than most other budget-friendly petite brands I’ve tried.

I have particularly good luck with petite blazers from Nine West at Kohl’s. They typically fit me well through the shoulders and body, although the sleeves can sometimes be a touch long.

One thing to keep in mind is sizing. My true blazer size is Petite 00/XXS, and many of the petite options at Kohl’s only go down to Petite XS or 0. Because of that, they can run a little large on me overall. If your size falls more comfortably within their petite size range, you may find the fit is even better.

Despite those small fit differences, Kohl’s is still my favorite place to look when I want an affordable petite blazer I can wear without paying for alterations. I’ll add that it can be difficult to find in-stock options in petite at Kohl’s so check back often for restocks and new arrivals.

The blazer I’m wearing here is a soft ponte option. It fits me with a little bit of extra room since I’m wearing Petite XS, so I would consider it true to size. This one is a little bit long through the sleeves and the shoulders are extended slightly but for a budget option I think it’s a great.

Honorable Mention: Ann Taylor & LOFT Petite Blazers

I buy blazers from Ann Taylor and LOFT often, so I still think they’re worth mentioning. Both brands offer a great selection of petite blazers, and I’m often drawn to their colors, prints, and workwear-friendly styles.

However, I consistently find that the sleeves are too long on me.

I still wear and love many of my Ann Taylor and LOFT blazers, but I usually have to work around the sleeve length by pushing the sleeves back or cuffing them. Because of that, I wouldn’t put either brand on my list of the best options if your main goal is finding a petite blazer that fits without tailoring or styling adjustments.

If you’re taller than I am or have longer arms, your experience may be different, but at 4’10”, sleeve length is the main reason they don’t make my top four.

What I Look for in a Petite Blazer

Petite sizing alone doesn’t guarantee a blazer will fit a petite frame well. At 4’10”, there are a few areas I pay particular attention to when trying one on.

Shoulder fit: The shoulder seam should sit close to my natural shoulder rather than extending noticeably past it. An oversized style is an exception, but for a classic blazer, a good shoulder fit makes a big difference.

Sleeve length: This is one of my biggest fit considerations with blazers. Ideally, I want the sleeves to hit around my wrist rather than covering part of my hands. Sleeves are also one of the reasons a petite blazer can technically be my size but still require alterations.

Overall length: I look for a length that feels proportional to my 4’10” frame. Longer blazers can work on petites, but the proportions need to feel intentional rather than like I’m wearing a standard-size blazer that’s simply too long.

Fit through the body: I want enough room to comfortably layer a top underneath without the blazer looking overly boxy. Since my true blazer size is Petite 00/XXS, brands that start their petite sizing at XS or 0 can sometimes be a little roomy on me.
