Every August, I put together a series of petite-friendly outfit ideas for teachers. While I’m not a teacher myself, these posts are inspired by the many requests and helpful feedback I receive from readers who are. My goal is to help my teacher friends find outfits that are comfortable for long days in the classroom, practical for being on your feet, and, of course, petite-friendly.
This year’s series includes four posts:
- Business casual outfits
- Casual outfits with fun printed pants, skirts, and jeans
- Teacher outfits with sneakers
- Dresses and skirts featuring teacher-friendly details like sleeves, pockets, and easy layering options
We’re kicking things off with business casual outfits built around comfortable stretch ponte pants. Both pairs featured in this post are machine washable, resist wrinkles, and hold their shape throughout the day, making them a great choice for busy days at school. I also kept the same shoes for all of the outfits to make it simple and practical.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Outfit 1: Quince Ultra-Stretch Ponte Pants + Floral Sweater
The first outfit features Quince’s Ultra Stretch Ponte Cropped Wide Leg Pants. These have an 11″ rise and a 24″ inseam in the Short length. On my 4’10” frame, they wear as a cropped style, but depending on your proportions, they may be closer to full length, making them easy to pair with flats.
The fit is relatively true to size, but they have a close stretch fit through the hips and waist. If you’re between sizes or simply prefer a little more room, I’d recommend sizing up. It’s fair to note these start at a size 0 and I’m typically a 00, but this size 0 fits me well.
The fabric is a blend of nylon, rayon, and spandex that offers plenty of stretch while maintaining a polished look. They’re also machine washable, resist wrinkles, and hold their shape well throughout the day—exactly what many teachers are looking for in everyday workwear.
For this first look, I paired them with a printed tan dolman sleeve sweater from LOFT. It’s an easy business casual outfit that feels polished while still being comfortable enough to wear all day.

Outfit 2: Quince Ponte Pants + Green Dolman Sweater
For the second outfit, I styled the same Quince ponte pants with an open-knit dolman sweater from Banana Republic Factory in a beautiful shade of green. I love this unique shade paired with the warm brown pants—it feels fresh for fall.

Outfit 3: Banana Republic Factory Ponte Pants + Simple Knit Top
The second pair of pants featured in this post is the Wide Leg High Rise Ponte Pants from Banana Republic Factory.
These have a slightly more tailored appearance thanks to the button and zipper closure, while still offering the comfort of ponte fabric. They feature side pockets, back slash pockets, and a clean waistband without belt loops for a streamlined look.
I’m wearing my usual Petite XXS, and I’d say they fit true to size. On my frame they have a 10″ rise and a 27.5″ inseam, making them a great full-length option for petites.
I paired them with a simple tucked-in knit top from Banana Republic Factory for a classic business casual outfit that’s polished, comfortable, and easy to recreate. The top has a close fit, but I would say it’s still true to size. It’s double lined, so even in lighter colors it shouldn’t be sheer.

Outfit 4: Banana Republic Factory Ponte Pants + Layered Cardigan
For the final outfit, I kept the same Banana Republic Factory ponte pants and added a cardigan from Old Navy.
This cardigan has a great petite-friendly fit and comes in several vibrant color options, making it an easy way to add a little personality to your work wardrobe. Layering a cardigan also makes it easy to adjust throughout the day as classroom temperatures change.
This outfit is comfortable enough for long days on your feet while still looking polished for meetings, conferences, or everyday teaching.
