I have a special place in my heart for teachers. Being a teacher can’t be easy, but it’s such an important job. Over the years, I have witnessed how much my boys’ teachers have poured into them, and I am so incredibly thankful. So every August, I like to create a special series just for teachers. Of course, the outfits will also work for most business casual/casual offices, but I make the outfits based on feedback I’ve received from my readers who work in education.

Since I’m not a teacher and have never been one, I create the outfits solely based on feedback from readers and hope I get it right. Overall, for the teachers series, my goal is to build outfits that are comfortable, easy to assemble, affordable, and most importantly, petite-friendly. I know dress codes can vary from school to school, and outfit styles can vary with grade levels. So, to hopefully help all of my teacher friends, this series will have outfits for teachers that are casual, business casual, with jeans, and dresses with sleeves. First up, four casual outfits for teachers.

Casual Outfits for Teachers

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Colorful Pants

Colorful pants are an easy way to make a simple outfit feel special. The pants in this outfit are an Amazon find. They’re meant to be cropped, but on me they are full-length. They have a 10″ rise and a 26″ inseam, which comes to the top of my foot. I’m wearing the pants in XS, which is equivalent to 0-2 per the size chart. One size down would be a perfect fit for me, but overall, they still work. They’re 98% cotton, so I think they will shrink in the wash as well. I paired them with a puff sleeve top from J.Crew Factory and comfortable washable flats from Target. The top is lined, so it’s not see-through. It tucks in well, and untucked has a roomy fit. The flats are overall comfortable and flex with you as you walk, but they’re only lightly supportive. I also chose the Quince tote for most of the outfits because of the size!

Cotton Mixy Dress and a Denim Jacket

This outfit is the classic dress and a denim jacket outfit we love, with an update. The dress is a cotton mixy style. The skirt is 100% cotton poplin and the top is a cotton and tencel blend. It’s not petite, but it’s a perfect fit! The dress is 34.5″ long so it comes a couple of inches above my knee, perfect for being work appropriate. The top is stretchy and ribbed with a great fit at the arm openings. The dress looks great on its own but I added the jacket in case you wanted arm coverage. I love that the jacket is a lady style, giving it a polished look. I’m wearing the jacket in Petite XXS, and it’s true to size.

Denim Dress

This denim dress from Banana Republic Factory has a comfortable, roomy fit and is a nice mini length for petites. The denim on this dress is a medium-weight. Not heavy, rigid denim, but more like a heavy chambray top. It’s a generous fit, only slightly drawing in at the waist, but the shorter length counterbalances that. I love that it pairs well with comfortable shoes like loafers, ballet flats, and sneakers. I’m wearing the dress in petite xxs and find it to fit true to size.

Wide-Leg Linen Pants

The wide-leg linen pants from Quince are an excellent option for teachers, especially at the beginning of the school year. I added a cropped denim jacket for arm coverage, but underneath the pants are paired with a cotton tank top that is perfect for hot weather. I find the pants to fit true to size and prefer the 28″ inseam option. For a more in-depth review of the pants, check out this post. They also come in a 26″ inseam option.
