One of the biggest color trends this summer is “coastal blue” — soft shades of blue inspired by the ocean, chambray, washed denim, and classic coastal style. The trend feels relaxed, effortless, and very wearable for everyday life, which is probably why I’ve been naturally gravitating toward it lately. (Let’s be honest, I’ve always gravitated to chambray, navy, and light blue).
For petites, coastal blue is especially easy to wear because it pairs so well with simple neutrals, white denim, linen textures, and lightweight summer fabrics. In today’s post, I’m sharing four petite-friendly outfit ideas inspired by the coastal blue trend that feel casual, polished, and easy to recreate.

Coastal Blue Outfit Ideas for Petites
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Gingham Cotton Skirt
I found this 100% organic cotton gauze skirt at Quince, and it’s incredibly soft and comfortable — honestly, I’d rather throw this on than a pair of shorts. I’m wearing the skirt in XS and it fits me well overall.
It’s styled lower on the hips on the model, but I prefer pulling it up to my waist to help balance proportions and shorten the length a bit on my 4’10” frame. Worn this way, I can easily pair it with flats, and since it’s fully lined, it’s not see-through at all.
I styled it with a fitted linen top here, but it would also look great with a simple white t-shirt for an even more effortless summer outfit.

Chambray Dress
I found this chambray dress at Nordstrom and immediately loved the fit. It comes in both this darker wash and a softer light wash option. I’m wearing it in XXS in the standard fit, and I found it to be really well proportioned for my petite frame. I consider it true to size overall.
The dress has a side zipper closure along with a stretchy waist that helps keep the fit comfortable. The skirt also has pockets, which is always a plus. It’s unlined but not sheer, and the chambray fabric feels lightweight and easy to wear for summer.

Navy Striped Linen Shorts + Swing Chambray Top
This sleeveless swing top from Anthropologie is my favorite kind of summer top. There’s no need to tuck it in, it stays cool and breezy in the heat, and you can layer it over a camisole if you want a little extra coverage without it feeling too revealing.
I’m wearing the top in XXS, and it has a really great fit overall, including at the arm openings. I paired it with navy striped linen-blend shorts from Banana Republic Factory. The shorts have a structured button-and-zipper closure with stretch at the back for comfort. They’re unlined but not sheer, fit true to size, and have a modest 4″ inseam.

Light Blue Dress
This soft light blue dress has such a pretty, princess-like feel to it. It’s fully lined with delicate puff sleeves and an empire waist that flows into a maxi length on my 4’10” frame. The fabric is soft, lightweight, and floaty, which gives the dress a really effortless movement when worn.
I’m wearing the dress in XXS, and I love how well the proportions work overall. The soft blue color fits perfectly with the coastal-inspired trend this summer. It would be such a beautiful option for a special occasion.

Soft blues, chambray, striped pieces, and light denim are all things I naturally reach for during the summer, and they pair so effortlessly with white, linen textures and woven accessories. These outfits all feel lightweight, relaxed, and easy to recreate while still working well for my 4’10” frame. If you’ve been looking for a softer color trend to try this summer, coastal blue is such a good one.
