Ever feel like it’s unfair seeing all the cute Walmart hauls that just won’t fit a petite frame? Same here. I can’t exactly walk into Walmart and expect everything to work on me, but with a little digging, I can usually find a few hidden gems. In today’s post, I’m sharing two dresses and one skirt I recently found at Walmart that have an overall petite-friendly fit and proportions.

Budget Friendly Summer Outfits from Walmart
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Free Assembly Striped Cotton Maxi Dress
This dress exceeded my expectations for the quality of a $36 dress. It’s 100% cotton and feels really well made. As for the fit, it’s definitely a true maxi length on me, so I need to wear it with heels and tighten the straps quite a bit to get the proportions right on my 4’10” frame.
Otherwise, the fit is great overall, with just a little extra room at the chest. The dress also has an open-back detail, so unless you have a very thin strapless bra, you’ll likely want to wear an adhesive bra with it. For size reference, I’m wearing it in XS.

Cotton Skirt
I found this 100% cotton skirt in the juniors section at Walmart. I spotted it in-store and, based on the proportions on the hanger, had a feeling it might actually work for petites. The model styles this skirt lower on the hips, but I personally prefer the way it looks worn at the waist.
It’s unlined but not see-through and has a really great length for petites. I paired it with a cotton-blend t-shirt from Free Assembly that has a nice slim fit, which helps balance the fuller shape of the skirt on a petite frame. The top also isn’t sheer at all in white, which is always a win.

Ivory Maxi Dress
This ivory dress is a lightweight maxi option with really pretty subtle details. It’s fully lined and has stretch crochet detailing at the waist and chest that gives it a soft, easy fit while still adding a little shape.
What really makes this dress work for me as a petite is the adjustable tie straps. Being able to shorten the straps helps bring the proportions up where they need to be and keeps the maxi length from feeling overwhelming on my 4’10” frame.
I’m wearing it in XS and it’s a little roomy overall, so if you’re between sizes or prefer a closer fit, I would suggest sizing down if you can. The fabric is lightweight and comfortable for hot summer days, making it a great option for vacations, casual events, or summer dinners out.

Finding petite-friendly pieces at Walmart can definitely take a little searching, but every now and then there are some really good finds hidden in the mix.
