Four Summer Outfits for Work

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

I built these outfits off of requests and conversations I had with all of you. There is always a split when it comes to outfits for work because there are so many professions and dress codes out there. So, I try to stay middle of the road with my outfit suggestions. Many of you asked me for dresses, options with sleeves, some asked for sleeveless (vests), and overall many of you wanted options you could layer to go in and out of the office.

Abercrombie Harper Trousers

The Harper Trousers from Abercrombie are a high-rise, wide-leg style. They come in inseam options, with short being the shortest. In short, they have a 28.5″ inseam, which works best for me with a low 1″ heel. Despite needing a low heel, they are overall true to size. The waistband is flat in the front and elastic at the back, making them a very comfortable option. These are very similar to the popular Sloan Trousers from Abercrombie, but the difference is this style has a single pleat instead of two (which makes them less puffy) and they are 1/4″ longer than the Sloan trousers. Overall both are great options. In this outfit I paired them with a vest and simply with a short sleeve t-shirt. I had high hopes of including this double lined baby tee in my workwear capsule – but white sold out before I could even post the first outfit with it (so frustrating). The original baby tee from Abercrombie has a similar fit, but isn’t double lined. It’s still a nice option but I love the polish the double lined option gives. Overall the top runs small and slightly compressive so I recommend a size up.

Abercrombie Sloan Trousers

Abercrombie Sloan Trousers are similar to the Harper Trousers, but like I mentioned above – they have a double pleated front and have a 28.25″ inseam in short. They also have a flat front waistband with stretch in the back and are overall true to size. I prefer the high rise option, but they also come in a low rise. I paired them with a vest here, for my friends who asked for petite vest options. I found this one at J.Crew Factory. It’s not petite, but it’s well proportioned. I find it to be true to size, I’m wearing it in 00/XXS and there is not gaping at the armholes.

Shirred Waist Dress

A dress was a popular request for summer work outfits. I found this one at Banana Republic Factory. It’s fully lined, has an elastic waist and the fabric doesn’t wrinkle easily. It’s not too low-cut and can be worn on its own or with a blazer or cardigan for an added layer. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS and find it to fit true to size. If the print isn’t your favorite, this dress also comes in two solid colors. I went with ballet flats here, but this dress would also look nice with a low kitten heel and loafers at the office, and worn casually with sandals.

Wide-Leg Jeans

My favorite wide-leg jeans for the office from Banana Republic Factory came out in a beautiful muted coral! The jeans have a 10″ rise and 27.5″ inseam in petite. The denim is comfortable and thick with a little bit of stretch. I paired them with a cotton poplin top I found at J.Crew Factory. This top has balanced puff sleeves and a drawstring bottom that gives it a little something extra. This is one of those tops that’s easy to wear casually, but can also add a little polish for work. I’m wearing the top in XXS and it’s not see-through.
