Of all the trends this season, I think velvet is my favorite. It’s such a beautiful fabric! Despite the fact that it’s my favorite trend, I don’t own enough! I started small with a few hair ties from J. Crew. I don’t even know if it’s appropriate to wear a bow in your hair at the age of 30…but I figure if J. Crew is selling it, it’s ok. I bought three. Not ashamed.
I wanted more velvet, hair ties aren’t enough, but I wasn’t quite sure what would be the most practical. Velvet shoes, would they just get messed up easily? Velvet bag, same thoughts at the shoes. Then the pants…as one of my friends (hi Whitney) and I discussed, would they just be too high maintnence for our child toting lives? Or my thoughts, would the velvet just make these hips and thighs look even wider?
Then on Black Friday I had some Gap rewards to blow and Old Navy was selling their velvet rockstar pants for $20, so I took a chance.
Velvet Rockstar Pants
Much to my surprise, the velvet pants worked just fine on me. The fit is very similar to rockstar denim. Of course, because they are a different material, they aren’t quite as forgiving as the denim, but it’s very close. As far as maintenance goes, you’ll need a lint roller, but they are machine washable and can be dried on low. I’ve already sent them through a cycle without any issues.
Since I’m not always the best at getting things on the blog before they sell out, these are only available in a few sizes, but I found a similar option here! I also finally took this sweater out for a spin. It was a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale buy and I have to admit, I haven’t worn it enough. I guess that’s the trouble with buying something in the summer to wear in the fall and winter, you’re not quite sure you’re going to get a lot of wear out of it. I love the sweater, but I don’t wear it to work and our weather has been really awkward, being really cold some days and back to mild others. I’ll definitely be making an effort to get it worn more during those mild days! Christmas is supposed to be 63 degrees here…which will be weird for us, but it sure would make this the perfect outfit for that day!
