Today I’m sharing three summer-weight jeans with a petite-friendly fit. Each pair is made from lightweight fabric that feels more comfortable in warm weather, but they vary in rise, inseam, and overall silhouette. If you’re looking for a pair of jeans that can help you stay cool this summer without sacrificing fit, here’s how these styles compare on my 4’10” frame.
For size reference, I’m 4’10” with measurements of 32-24-36 and typically wear a size 24 or Petite 00 in bottoms. I have a 25″ ankle inseam and a 27-28″ full lenght inseam. The measurements I give with each pair are taken from the size I’m wearing and may differ from what you see on the brand website due to variation in sizing.

3 Lightweight Summer Jeans for Petites
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
American Eagle Stovepipe Jeans
Rise: 9″
Inseam: 27″ (Short), 25″ (Extra Short available)
Fabric: 87% Cotton, 13% Recycled Cotton | Back & Waistband: 86% Cotton, 13% Recycled Cotton, 1% Elastane
Weight: Medium-lightweight denim
Fit: True to size
Size Worn: 00 Short
What I Like
The Stovepipe Jeans from American Eagle are a great option if you’re looking for a relaxed straight-leg jean that doesn’t feel oversized. The lightweight denim is comfortable for summer, and the shorter inseam options make them especially petite-friendly.
I appreciate that these have a more moderate 9″ rise. For petites who find today’s ultra-high rises overwhelming, this rise feels balanced and easy to wear. The relaxed fit through the leg gives them a modern look while still maintaining structure.
Fit Notes for Petites
I’m wearing these in a size 00 Short. The pair I measured has a 9″ rise and 27″ inseam, although American Eagle’s website lists slightly different measurements. In my experience, brands often provide measurements that represent an average across all sizes rather than the exact size being worn.
These fit me true to size and have a relaxed fit without feeling baggy. I also appreciate that they’re available in an Extra Short inseam, which will work well for petites who need something closer to a 25″ inseam.

Banana Republic Factory Mid-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans
Rise: 9″
Inseam: 28″
Fabric: 100% Cotton
Weight: Lightweight denim
Fit: True to size
Size Worn: Petite XXS
What I Like
These pull-on wide-leg jeans from Banana Republic Factory are a great option for petites who want to try a wider-leg silhouette without a lot of volume. The 100% cotton denim is lightweight and comfortable for warmer weather, and the pull-on waistband makes them comfortable to wear throughout the day.
Although they’re technically a wide-leg style, the leg remains relatively slim and streamlined. The result is a modern silhouette that feels balanced on a petite frame and doesn’t overwhelm my proportions.
Fit Notes for Petites
The 9″ rise is another feature I appreciate. It creates a balanced proportion without feeling too high on a shorter torso.
I’m wearing these in my usual size and find them true to size overall. The 28″ inseam is a wearable full length on my 4’10” frame. I can wear them with flat sandals and a slight bunch at the hem, or with a low heel for a cleaner look. The slimmer wide-leg shape also helps keep the overall fit proportional on petites.
At the time of posting, these jeans are not showing in petite, but I contacted customer service, and they should restock, so I will keep an eye out for that. The inventory issues I’ve been running into with brands across the board are an ongoing issue I wish I had control over. Very sorry for the frustration.

Abercrombie High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans
Rise: 11″
Inseam: 28.5″
Fabric: 81% Cotton, 18% Linen, 1% Elastane
Weight: Lightweight denim
Fit: True to size at the waist
Size Worn: 24 Short
What I Like
If your goal is maximum breathability, these Abercrombie jeans are worth considering. The linen-blend fabric feels noticeably lighter than traditional denim and is ideal for hot summer days.
The relaxed wide-leg silhouette creates an easy, effortless look that pairs well with simple tanks and fitted tops.
Fit Notes for Petites
While I enjoy the lightweight fabric, I don’t find these quite as petite-friendly as the other options in this post.
The 11″ rise is very high on my 4’10” frame, and the 28.5″ inseam requires a heel for me to wear comfortably. The combination of the high rise and longer inseam creates a lot of visual length through the body, which may work well for some petites but can feel overwhelming on others.
The fit at the waist is true to size and comfortable, but if you’re specifically looking for an easy-to-wear petite jean, I would place these behind the American Eagle and Banana Republic Factory options.

Which Pair Is Best for Petites?
If I were ranking these specifically for petite-friendliness, my order would be:
- American Eagle Stovepipe Jeans – The shorter inseam options and moderate rise make these the easiest recommendation for most petites.
- Banana Republic Factory Mid-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans – A comfortable and flattering wide-leg option with balanced proportions.
- Abercrombie High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans – Lightweight and breathable, but the high rise and longer inseam make them a little more challenging on a petite frame.
All three pairs are lighter-weight alternatives to traditional denim, making them excellent choices for summer. The best option ultimately comes down to your preferred silhouette and proportions, but if you’re looking for the easiest petite-friendly fit, the American Eagle Stovepipe Jeans would be my top pick.
