I’m always trying to expand and find more petite-friendly options, especially in the budget category, which can honestly be one of the hardest places to find pieces that fit well right off the rack. Lately, though, I’ve been having surprisingly good luck at Target. I’m not sure if it’s a shift in sizing, the season, or if I’m just getting better at spotting styles with adjustable features that work for petites, but there have definitely been more keeps than returns for me recently.
With that said, none of these are a perfectly tailored petite fit, but if I can find something that fits well enough and doesn’t cost a fortune, I’m absolutely here for it.
In today’s post, I’m sharing three affordable dresses from Target that have a really great fit on my petite frame.

3 Affordable Target Dresses That Work for Petites
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Smocked Maxi A-Line
I saw this dress online several times and completely wrote it off. It looked maxi length on the model, so I assumed there was no way it would work on my petite frame. But when I spotted it in store, I loved the print and the weight of the fabric enough to give it a try.
In XS, the dress fits me well through the body, but the straps are just a little too long. I shortened them myself by tucking the excess fabric into the dress and securing it with a safety pin, and it actually worked really well. Of course, you could also have the straps professionally shortened, which is usually a simple and inexpensive alteration.

Button-Front Tiered A-Line Dress
This dress is such a great fit on my petite frame. It’s made from 100% cotton with a flattering fit through the body and adjustable straps that I was able to shorten to work perfectly for my proportions. The waist doesn’t have stretch, but the tie-back detail makes the fit more adjustable and comfortable. It’s also fully lined down to the hem, so it doesn’t feel sheer at all.

Lace Mini Babydoll Dress
This babydoll dress is fully lined with a lightweight overlay that keeps it comfortable and easy to wear in the summer heat. The adjustable straps help customize the fit and shorten the overall length for petites. On my frame, the dress hits right around my knees and fits well through the chest with a roomy skirt.
I especially love the crochet detail at the bodice and the soft yellow color. It’s such a pretty, easy casual summer dress. For size reference, I’m wearing it in XS.

I had honestly become a little frustrated with returning so many failed Target finds that I stopped looking there as often. It wasn’t always the length for me, but the overall fit. But lately, with a few really good wins, I’ve found myself excited to browse again and see what they have to offer. Hopefully, I can continue to find options that work well on a petite frame. I have a few more finds from Target in this post.
