MOTHER Denim has become one of the most popular premium denim brands over the past few years. Their jeans are known for modern washes and comfortable fits.
One thing I appreciate is that they offer petite sizing, although I’ve found the fit to be a little inconsistent. Some styles are a bit too long, the rises can still feel higher than I’d prefer, and I often wish the back pockets were slightly larger for better proportions on my frame. Every now and then, though, I find a pair that feels just right.
Today I’m reviewing two of their mid-rise petite styles that are much better balanced for my 4’10” frame. Both have rises under 10 inches, making them a nice option if you’ve been looking for premium denim without an ultra-high rise.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

If you’re looking for an easy everyday jean, the Lil Mid Rise Rambler Zip Ankle is my favorite of these two styles.
The rise feels balanced without being too low or too high, and the 25.5-inch inseam is an excellent ankle length on my frame.
The denim is soft with plenty of stretch, making these incredibly comfortable from the first wear. I also love the light wash, which feels especially versatile for spring and summer outfits.
My biggest disappointment is the fabric composition. At this price point, I don’t love seeing polyester included in the denim blend. While the jeans are comfortable, I generally prefer denim with a higher percentage of natural fibers.
I also wish the back pockets were just a little larger. It’s a small detail, but slightly larger pockets tend to be more flattering and proportional on my frame.

MOTHER The Lil Bookie Twist Skimp

If you’re looking for something a little different, the Lil Bookie Twist Skimp offers a fresh take on a classic bootcut jean.
The standout detail is the twisted hem, a design element that’s been showing up across several denim brands lately. It’s subtle enough to remain wearable while adding a modern twist to a classic silhouette.
Unlike the Rambler, this pair uses a more rigid denim blend made from 59% cotton, 40% lyocell, and 1% elastane, with no polyester. Personally, I much prefer this fabric composition, especially at this price point.
Because the denim is more structured, they feel a little snug when you first put them on. I still recommend your usual size, but don’t expect the same immediate comfort as the Rambler. After a little wear, they begin to mold nicely to your body.

These fit true to size but feel more fitted initially because of the rigid denim. If you’re used to stretch jeans, expect a short break-in period.

Final Thoughts
Between the two, the Lil Mid Rise Rambler Zip Ankle is my favorite for everyday comfort. The rise and inseam are excellent on my 4’10” frame, and the stretch denim makes them incredibly easy to wear. I just wish the fabric blend didn’t include polyester and that the back pockets were slightly larger.
If you prefer a more structured jean, the Lil Bookie Twist Skimp is the stronger choice. The rigid denim feels more premium, and I love that it skips polyester altogether. The twisted hem also gives this classic bootcut silhouette a modern update that’s right on trend.
Overall, both styles are worth considering if you’ve been searching for premium mid-rise petite jeans. They strike a nice balance between modern styling and proportions that work well on a shorter frame, something that’s surprisingly difficult to find.
