I like to keep a clean house. Is it always clean? Nope, but I sure do try! When we were building our new home, I chose to make just about everything white or light gray. Everyone called me crazy. Especially because I have two small boys who make it their daily goal to destroy and spread stickiness. So, with this white house and constant sticky fingered children, I be cleaning…I be cleaning. Since I clean so much, I try to choose cleaners that are less toxic. I figure if I’m spraying them daily around my family, they should be on the safer side.
Now, I’m not an ingredients whiz, so I can’t really speak to the safety/eco friendliness of these products, but I can tell you they sure do smell good, and they work! So, when I’m doing my daily cleaning here’s what I’m reaching for:
I’m starting with the one product I use the most. I use this spray so much, I get a new bottle every other week. Hence, why this bottle is half empty. I use this on just about everything, from my counters to my windows and it never leaves a streak. The waterfall scent is pretty awesome too. Every now and then when I feel like a change, I opt for Mrs. Meyer’s Glass Cleaner, but I have to say, it doesn’t leave things as streak free as the Method formula.
Before this house, we didn’t have stainless steel appliances. I remember picking out our particular appliances, ignoring the suggestions to go for the finger print proof version, just so I could have the electric oven with the controls on the front. I thought to myself, I clean a lot, it will be ok. It was not ok. I had no clue how to clean stainless steel, so even though I constantly wiped my appliances down, they were still streaky and finger print laden. Until I ordered this Steel For Real spray, off of Amazon. Life changer. You basically spray it on your stainless steel, wipe it around and then buff it off and it repels finger prints. It truly works! I only clean my stainless steel, a couple times a week now, as opposed to the multiple times a day I was doing it before. Plus, it smells like apples, I’m down with apples.
Mrs. Meyer’s is so bomb, I’m just going to give her a blanket category. I use the laundry detergent, hand soap, dish soap, toilet cleaner and sometimes the counter spray. I absolutely love the scents in Mrs. Meyer’s product line, which is why I buy it time after time. My favorite scents are Honeysuckle and Blue Bell, but I can also get down with Lavender and the fun seasonal scents that come through every so often.
Now, these are my everyday cleaners, but I do use other cleaners around the house. In the bathroom I use Method Antibac spray. Unless something really gross has gone through the house, like a stomach bug, then I break out the Clorox and Lysol. I also, hands down, will never stop using Bar Keepers Friend. Your grout will never be cleaner, than it is with a little BKF, trust me. On my wood floors, I use a little spray bottle with water and a few drops of an essential oil, then I dry mop them! It’s gentle, repels spiders (or so I like to think) and smells great.
Now, let me go clean my all white kitchen for the second time today. 🙂
What are your go-to cleaners? Do you share any of my favorites?
